Loki’s core issue (the feeling inferior part) is very understandable. But that’s where he gets a bit (a lot) misguided, which is where you had trouble following. Asgard in the past, as we see in the flashback at the beginning of this movie and again in later movies, was very focused on war and conquest. And while Odin has now kind of turned his back on that, Thor is still very much focused on proving himself that way. Since in Loki’s eyes, Odin heavily favors Thor, Loki thinks that if he is more like his brother, he will receive the same amount of love and attention from their father, not realizing that is the exact behavior Odin doesn’t want to see in either of his sons. Then, of course, Loki learns that he’s adopted, and not in the “we want another child and love you so much" kind of way, but as a bargaining tool and a trophy. That messes him up mentally (understandably so, he's literally been lied to by both of his parents for over a thousand years), and he goes kind of crazy. He now finally knows why he could never be as good as Thor and thinks that by destroying Jotunheim and killing every frost giant, he can kill two birds with one stone: one, do his father a favor and slaughter his enemies which will make him be like Thor so could make Odin love him, and two, prove that he's not one of the "monsters" but his allegiance is fully with Asgard, who are the people he grew up with, not the ones who birthed and abandoned him. Has plan backfires majorly tho because he didn't account for Thor coming to stop him and for Odin to wake up only to tell him "no, Loki", which Loki interprets as "you're not good enough and you never will be, I'm disappointed in you, I will never love you as much as I love Thor". That's probably not the way Odin meant it (tho he could have phrased more like "that's not what I wanted either of you to do and I love you unconditionally", but then again, Odin being a terrible father is kind of a thing in the MCU), but it's the logical conclusion for Loki's fragile mind, so he lets go, probably with the expectation of dying (which he doesn't, as we see in the post credit scene, but we will get more context for that later). I hope this makes sense. I don't really know how much of this you can get from the movie alone (I do think Hiddleston did his absolute best at portraying Loki's thoughts and feelings, but the character is always a little sidelined in the Thor movies) and how much of this is my own fanfiction influenced headcanon lol

Eh, I’ve never enjoyed Thor and Jane’s relationship. The first movie occurs over like 2 days or so once Thor is banished and I’m supposed to just get with the fact that she changed him and his perspective on life and his morals over a weekend? That they ended up having a “fated love” kind of deal because of that? Other than him being an alien god and her being interested in science and space, they have absolutely nothing in common. No hobbies, no other personality quirks, no life experience, their goals in life aren’t really that similar. Not to mention I personally don’t think the actors have much onscreen romantic chemistry with each other. They’re both good looking but it doesn’t mean they vibe onscreen. I get and appreciate other canon romantic couples in the MCU (some to different extents) (and I won’t mention them as they’re spoilers for Brad) but this is one of the few that I don’t understand or ship at all. And I just don’t like Jane’s character. 🫤

I know what you mean by Thor and Jane's relationship. I think out of all the canon romances in the MCU, they are the ones I care about the least. That's mainly because of my neutral-ness for Jane (I don't dislike her, but I also don't like her either). See...I'm actually on Loki's side for like the entire time. Apart from when he kills the Frost Giants and when sends the Destroyer to Earth. Like, didn't he have a point? and prove it? Thor wasn't ready. All he wanted was to be a warrior, and he wasn't capable (at that time) to be a peaceful ruler. If Loki hadn't escalated it (though Odin and Frida should have told Loki who he is and not have fucking monster bedtime stories about his people) after Thor was banished, i think his scheme would have went perfectly.

My thoughts on Loki's motivations (nerd essay): Loki is like a kicked puppy lashing out -- notice that he's crying at least three times in the movie. He's an emotional dude. There's that angry, resentful part of him that does Bad Shit, and a wounded inner child that just wants love and approval. The angry and jealous part wanted to be king, while the wounded inner child part DID want Thor to consider him an equal (and be less arrogant). The elephant in the room is that Odin was a really bad father, openly showing his favoritism. Loki formed this deeply painful inner question, why am I not good enough? Like, what's wrong with me? Why doesn't my dad seem to love me? Thor was not emotionally intelligent enough to notice how big a problem this was. Loki desperately wants Odin's love, and he considers himself Odin's son even when he finds out he was adopted. He orchestrates the assassination attempt (his bio father killing his adopted father) so that he can be seen by Odin 1) murdering his bio father, clearly choosing Odin as his dad 2) saving Odin, gaining himself his dad's approval (and political legitimacy). I would say he attempts to destroy Jotunheim so that he can completely erase that which makes him different from his adopted family and not good enough for his father. He can't make himself not a frost giant, so it's almost the next best thing. When he's dangling off the bridge, he says to his dad basically, "look what I did! for you! do you love me now?" Then Odin says "No, Loki," because he has the EQ of a pineapple and doesn't know how to say "I love you, but you're doing a bad thing right now." What Loki hears is, "No, Loki, I don't love you." So Loki chooses to let go of trying to gain his father's approval, and I don't think he knows if he'll survive, but in that moment he feels ready to die. :/

There is something wrong with all of you. You don’t get to make that excuse for people that do horrible things just because you had a bad childhood does not mean that you are not in charge of your actions. If you watch the TV show, that is literally what they’re teaching him that he still made those choices whether or not he was sad or hurt he still made those choices that were wrong. So they were perfectly fine with him dying. Oden saved his life. I love how it’s great when Loki makes political strategies, but when Odin wants to bring their two worlds together with his son, then that’s a problem. Which Loki didn’t even look at the opportunity this gave him of how much power he would have of being the bridge between two worlds. He was too focused on revenge. Also, let’s not forget his revenge got his mom killed him the second one. Stop defending him.

Loki has always been really interesting as a character. He grew up with all of the racism against the Jotunn (frost giants). “They’re all evil monsters, etc” Think of it like Americans to the Japanese right after WWII. He was looked down upon because he relied on magic. It always seemed to me that before he has his breakdown Loki was always the more diplomatic one (sneaky get the best out of any situation type) and Thor was the warrior. Then when trying to prove that Thor is not ready yet (he wasn’t), he finds out that he is one of the “monsters” he was told horror stories about and was only taken from jotunheim to be a political tool. The way I interpreted it was that he thinks it’s because he is jotunn that his father never loved him or respected him and that he needs to kill his birth father (the king of jotunheim) and destroy where he came from to prove that he is not “one of the monsters”. That he is choosing his adoptive home over the place that he came from. When he is hanging from the bridge and the father that he chose over the one he just killed rejects him, he accepts that nothing he would ever do is enough for Odin and he lets go (I’ve always taken this as him giving up on life). As a note this is completely f’d up and he needs a ton of therapy. Also Odin is not a good father or person. How could he raise a kid to hate his own race. Did he think Loki would never find out? It’s an interesting parallel between Thor, who starts as a violent prideful dick who learns humility and restraint, and Loki who starts as a mischievous younger brother that just wants to be acknowledged and then goes through a complete mental breakdown and has his entire sense of self stripped away who becomes a villain. It’s the story of Loki’s fall as much as it is about Thor becoming the hero he needs to be.

Fun Fact: Odin and Thor were originally Germanic Gods. There names were Wodan (Odin) and Thunor (Thor). These are the Anglo-Saxon spelling. So basically they are the gods our ancestors would have worshipped. And King Charles is a "direct descendant of Odin" according to Anglo-saxon chronicles😂 The reason why many call them "Norse Gods" is that the Norse were the last Germanic tribe to keep to the old gods. The rest had converted to Catholicism.

Just a heads up to how awful Odin is, Loki is 1080+ years old..And Odin didn't tell him he was adopted even after so long. Loki had to find it out himself meaning Odin never planned on telling him..Also Odin raised Loki and Thor making them hate frost giants as well as compete for the throne, despite knowing Loki is a frost giant and is also fit for the throne as he is the rightful king of the frost giants. Loki indeed only wanted to be Thor's equal. But he was not treated as an equal. After all..Despite making Thor and Loki compete for the throne, from the very start, Odin had no intention to make Loki King..He can't have a frost giant, enemies of Asgard, be king. Also why did Odin take Loki as a baby? Loki was not in danger. Loki was crying cause babies just cry. He did not adopt Loki..HE STOLE HIM to use him as a relic in the future Odin is the reason everything sucks. Loki and Thor had a 1000+ years of brotherhood(despite small fights and mischiefs like brothers do..espeically a god of mischief) but it reached it's major drift in this movie, due to the coronation.

Thor’s friends aren’t Gods. Only he is. And Loki and Odin. Loki was wrong for what he did but he wasn’t wrong in why he was angry. He was born to be a King and then taken from his people and lied to his entire life. Odin basically told him his entire life that he would never be a King - but that he was meant to be a King. That bred a lot of anger and resentment and that’s all on Odin. Loki is my favorite Marvel character. He has the beat character arc of any character in the MCU. Keep watching!

Loki wanted to destroy Jotunheim partly out of self loathing and partly out of pure ambition, since he saw it as a great way to claim the throne of Asgard for himself. I liked and commented as soon as I've clicked on the video, after the reaction I also have to say (besides Brad being sexy as hell): Brad, it's crucial to watch the deleted scenes from Thor! Especially the "Thor & Loki" - scene, but also the coronation scene to understand how Loki actually became a king (regent). But the first one is so so important to understand the Thor & Loki relationship, and also the shippers :D You will get MANY comments from Loki or T+L - lovers on your MCU journey, just be prepared! If you watched the movie online, the deleted scenes can be found on youtube! I think many fans are still disappointed, the Thor & Loki deleted scene hasn't made it into the movie. I will just sit here quietly and hope you'll start to fancy Loki, too at some point :D because Tom Hiddleston totally slays this role in each movie he's in. I also forgot you have to watch Captain America before Avengers, I was already hyped for this reaction, guess we'll have to wait.

Love your cosplay! So glad you enjoyed Thor! Though I have to say, Thor the character took me a while to warm up to. Loki is one of my FAVE mcu characters ever, and he has a really good arc over all the mcu films. I actually agreed with him for most of this film until he did the...ya know...genocide thing. But Loki's growth is incredible and his character is very complex and interesting, so I hope you warm up to him. Loki and Thor's relationship is also beautiful, and Thor really does love Loki, and vice versa. Great reaction, and as I said, I hope he grows on you!
