Ok, soo basically- this song is about this group of people who have been enslaved in the desert by a powerful wizard for generations just so they can build him a Tower that goes to the sky so he can fly across the stars... "In the heat and rain, with whips and chains, to see him fly, so many died, we built a tower of stone, with our flesh and bones-" And despite all that, when the tower is done and he jumps from the top, he falls down to the ground instead of soaring, so all they can feel is despair. Despite how much pain he put them through, the last thing they still had was the hope that their sacrifice wouldn't be in vain... And when he died, that hope died too. Even so, they gotta move on... As dark as it looks, there's a rainbow rising... :)

Dio HATED this album... well he said side 1 was decent.. side 2 was "pretentious shit for Ritchie and Cozy... oh, I can do a solo for 10 minutes.. " ... Dio denied it, but he was really bitter when it came to Ritchie Blackmore, and it showed.
@raelik7773 жыл бұрын
This song... not only is it musically one of the best heavy metal songs of the 70's, the lyrics have a deep meaning bearing a stark warning. On the face of it, the song is about a wizard who has enchanted and enslaved people to build him a tower to the stars so that he can fly, only to have his attempt fail catastrophically and for them to watch him plummet to his death, breaking the spell. But Dio himself said that this was really just a metaphor, and that it really describes any group of people who fall under the spell of a charismatic demagogue, suffering to help them achieve their doomed vision, only to be lost when it inevitably falls to ruin. "A Light In The Black" is about those people trying to find their way back to what they lost after they followed "the wizard".

It is a story you would tell children because it is about something horrible. A megalomaniac wizard enslaves or entices people including the narrator to build him a Babel-like tower so he can fly to the stars. Through all their suffering they keep the spirit by imagining how great it will be to actually see the wizard fly at the end- they are a part of something amazing, however brutal the conditions are. In the end, the wizard si ply falls to his death because he does not really have the ability to magically fly to the stars. The narrator then bemoans how pointless the toil was. The wizard was a vain fool who paid for his arrogance with his life after believing his own BS. The slaves were weak fools for suffering for the goals of a vain fool and paid for it with their long suffering. Don't be the wizard and dont be a slave to the wizard.

People tend to focus on the singer. Yet the driving force here was #RitchieBlackmore, the guitarist Same with black sabbath- all you hear is Ozzyozzyozzy when in fact he was 'just' the singer. @@neillenet291 I always thought some of his lyrics were a bit trite on his solo stuff.” Rainbow in the Dark” was a great song, but I find the lyrics kinda “corny”? It was cool when I 15, but as an adult,it’s a little silly. Then there was “Running with the Wolfpack “. Just silly. I think his best music was with Rainbow and Sabbath, when others chose the songs he sang.Don’t get me wrong, I am a Dio fan, but his contemporaries like Ozzy’s and Iron Maiden and even Judas Priest all had clever and profound lyrics. Think of Crazy Train and Over the Mountain or Diary of a Mad Man. Iron Maiden also has great lyrics that tell a tale. I am not really sure who wrote for Dio, if not himself, but he chose them. And they were often weak, fortunately, his voice was one of the greatest. That is just my opinion…Happy Holidays

New Channel fan here, love it! I'd suggest Rainbow, "mistreated" live in Munich, such an awesome song, the bass, drums, guitar, vocals all so good; you will NOT be disappointed.
