Singer Richard Patrick: "When I wrote the chorus to "Take a Picture" [...] it was just after my friend was like, "Do you remember anything you did last night?" And I was like, "What are you talking about?" She said, "My God, you were throwing beer bottles out of a cab window at a cop car. Do you remember that?" And I said, "Good lord, could you take my picture, 'cuz I won't remember." And that line just kinda stuck. Weeks later, I had another drunken experience - being on a plane and being blacked out and not feeling good and taking my shirt off, half in and out of consciousness - and I'm in the back of a paddy wagon. I’m thinking, "Oh my God, what is my dad gonna think of this shit?" Y’know, "Dad, what do you think about your son now?" So, the song is this amazing thing for me to look back on now."

I always thought 'hey dad' was about an estranged relationship with his father, and he was pointing out his successful career. The story presented here is relieving. In another retelling, there was a bit about his fear of flying, and he had perhaps mixed dramamine or something similar with copious amounts of alcohol, resulting in his assumption of a nude fetal position mid-flight.

Filter mainman Richard Patrick was once a guitarist in Nine Inch Nails back in the late 80's/ early 90's... he and NIN frontman Trent Reznor had a falling out and Patrick split to form his own project in 1994 that became Filter... the debut album 'Short bus' in 1995 was a platinum success. Patrick had a long history w/ alcoholism... coincidentally the same issue that plagued NIN's Trent Reznor... Yeah, I think this about waking up after blacking out on alcohol and being unable to recall what happened.

@jek48372 жыл бұрын
In addition to someone's explanation of the story behind this incident (the lead singer, Richard Patrick, getting drunk on an airplane, taking his clothes off, making a complete ass of himself, etc.), Patrick stated that his dad was initially offended by the line "What do you think of your son now?". Patrick says that the song is kind of open ended, and that at different times that line might mean something else. Sometimes it means that he's worried what his dad will think about all the shameful incidents, or other times it might mean that despite all of Patrick's problems, he hopes his dad is proud of him that he made it.

His father passed and now he wrote this song from feeling bad about how he treated his dad.
