Bradley Martyn's recent move of challenging elite MMA fighters and boxers to a street fight is silly. With names like Nate Diaz, Demetrious Johnson, and boxing prodigy Devin Haney on his list, is Martyn genuinely seeking a test of skills or is this a marketing ploy?

I am a big guy (220 Lbs) and when I was younger I had a number of brawls and held my own okay but this one time I came up against a guy half my size who sparked me out with just one punch. I didn't even see it coming. He was a boxer

I knew a guy that was a boxer, my age but much smaller, at least 20 lbs lighter and him just messing with me, I couldn’t even react fast enough. I had trained martial arts for three years at that time and fought a lot in my youth, grew up in a rough area. The guy went on and went pro. I’m not sure I’d be able to kick the guy back then, he was that fast, his lateral movements were effortless.

The thing I’ve learned is never talk with someone about who would win in a fight between you and them because even if you are way better than them and could obviously beat them unless they’re super humble their ego is gonna get in the way (especially someone like Brad) and they’re gonna get defensive even if both sides are trying to be nice, and it ultimately just makes for a really awkward conversation. Like he was trying to be cool about it but you could tell he was pretty agitated on the inside. As a lifelong wrestler and not being a big guy myself, I always had to deal with big guys proclaiming they will manhandle me after they see my ears. Friends, acquaintance and strangers alike. It usually goes: they see my busted right ear, ask if I fight, I say I wrestle, they ask if I think I could beat them, I smile and say I don't know, and they tell me they will manhandle me because I am not big. I weigh about 165. I have dealt with these comments since Junior High school. In the school days, bigger guys, especially guys from the football team would say this. We let the football team join our practice and I did a round robin with them. We lined 12 of them up and let them rotate in. Didn't lose a match😅. In college it was the same. New friends and acquaintances, same story. Never fought with anyone but would entertain guys who seemed genuine and chill enough. Also never got manhandled, could usually fold them down within 10-15 seconds. Even had a 260 pound football player that I tossed. When we squared up on the grass I acted like I was going to blast into him like he wanted to do to me. When he charged in I lateral dropped him on his head. Actually dazed him pretty badly and I felt guilty. That isn't to say some of those guys couldn't mess me up if they came up behind me and grabbed me. But the idea that people with literally no experience in a combat sport, will be able to do anything against people with training, especially people with significant training, is delusional. There are scenarios where the overwhelming size difference will make it hard for the smaller guy to do something, especially when it is only grappling. But even with huge size discrepancies, a skilled boxer who is smaller will flat out KO bigger guys. Street fighting is nothing more than an idea for people who don't have experience. Experienced combat athletes have hundreds to thousands of hours of actual combat experience. 999 times out of 1000 they will win.

I agree, being in a BJJ arena with grapplers using leverage as an advantage can have a toll on a big guy, especially when there are rules both have to abide by. I also don't agree with how in a street fight where one solid, quick punch from a person of significant mass won't have the winning hand. I respect martial arts and believe that technique is important, but physics is multifaceted and isn't only leverage. That has to be stressed and everyone trains differently. If the goal is to be flexible, large, strong, etc, or all of the above, it will play out differently and strength in an actual fight really has a tremendous impact. Both sides should equally respect that if both are fair.

I was a trained wrestler, boxer, and Thai. Then I started powerlifting and added about 30 lbs of muscular body weight. My fighting weight was between 165 to 175 lbs . I went back to the boxing gym at 200 to 205lbs, and with about 10 years prior training and still got my ass handed to me. At 205 I sucking wind in about 90 seconds. Needless say I quickly cut back down to 175 lbs. What these muscle heads don’t get is the muscle requires more oxygen. I found that moving around it my feet felt like I had 45 lbs plates tied to them. Also power comes from technique. Guys like this dude would be as successful driving a golf ball as punching//kicking. If you don’t know how to shift weight, etc you’ll have no power. Just a fact.
@YusufSayed-px2xy

Most likely you won't retain all that muscle doing that type of cardio unless you're on gear. You need grappling to survive. It takes years to be a competent grappler not too mention thousands of hours of Mat time, grinding and drilling submissions and submission defense, maybe in 5 years if he committed to training full time with a competent legit high level black belt BJJ champion. Brad would need to live in BJJ to get good fast at BJJ. It's not like other martial arts. It takes averagely 10 years to get a black belt in BJJ. BJJ is very effective and technical. It takes you to train every day almost to get good effectively at BJJ. The muscle memory is crucial in BJJ. BJJ is human chess.

That old guy who plays golf to relax after work? You wouldn't have a chance of beating him. Bradley is right about the 150 pounds boxer. People usually end up slammed on the concrete in street fights, and he'd get ragdolled. The dude has a puncher's chance of a quick KO, but if Bradley just rushed the dude and bear hug him to stop the blows, its over. That's all I'll say to defend Brad. Boxers are very specific (and limited) fighters due to the rules of the game, but someone who knows kicks and or grappling, much different story.

Yeah but just rushing someone especially an elite athlete doesn’t mean they don’t know what to do when someone rushes you it’s called pivoting and rushing away over and over then throw a flurry.

@austinlester1683 was just about to say. People act like the boxer at 150 knowing the weight difference will just sit like a brick. Especially if it's Devin Haney? Big boy would learn foot work and feel himself getting struck from different angles. I doubt people teetering towards 300lbs are gonna magically gain more cardio than dudes at 150 and just have some tremendous speed to just grab the guy instantly. Realistically they'd probably be worn down from chasing and eating body shots. Most people who don't do combat sports just adrenaline dump anyway

I’m 6’4 290 and lift everyday. I’ve trained lightly in combat sports and 100 percent will say a 150 pound man can definitely fuck me up if they are a trained or professional fighter 😂 I seriously don’t understand why these dudes think they can fight because of weight or muscle.

i wrestled one of my managers on a job years ago and he did something similar. that smacking the mat and walking off shit is not only disrespectful but what SSP forgot to mention that often times its a way to tap without tapping. i was en route to making the shit talking manager at my job who outweighed me, look like a sucker. and he did that to stop the scenario. i was taking him to a dark place lol took the back and he needed an out

If you are a big guy like that, especially if you are on the taller side, you might be able to beat a small boxer if you employ the right strategy. If you get sucked into a slugging match with him then you will lose bad. What you need to do is keep your arms extended and push him until you can mount him on the ground then ground and pound him or get him in a neck crank or rudimentary choke.

He is just saying all this for the shock value. I've seen videos of him doing jujitsu with some guys are getting mauled. He knows what will happen. He does have a point, though. Extra size does give you an advantage when coupled with a skillset.

I have to disagree with your statement that for Bradley to put himself in this situation it shows a level of humility, I think only shows is his level of arrogance and ignorance, because he’s such a big, strong guy he can even have a chance against even a 145 trained martial artist. Hopefully he shows humility after and doesn’t just make stupid excuses and maybe just maybe it will make him decide he should train.

I like what you said about when he is messing around with Brian Shaw. I'm not big, but kinda decent shape in a small town. One day I'm in the gym feelin pretty pumped and this guy I never seen before comes in. Big farm fed kinda guy, but legit 6'9" strongman lookin' dude. I'm in my 40s and got the "hey kid" nod from him lol. I'm like, yeah, I'll go along with that. Always someone bigger, smarter, etc. Great content man! You're doing it!
