Hot take: Maiden's first two albums are actually pretty underrated. Sure, it's not as refined as their later work, but it still has some of the strongest bangers they've ever written: Iron Maiden, Prowler, Phantom of The Opera, Remember Tomorrow, Killers, Wrathchild etc. It's pretty beloved around here in Brazil Plus Paul is actually a pretty good vocalist and fitting in the style of the first 2(I actually took a photo with him :) ), despite Bruce being way better

Yes! The big weak point of that album is just how it's arranged. It starts out really strong (Lord of the Flies especially I feel is the most underrated Iron Maiden song of them all), but then there's three slow and somber songs about war, that together last 19 minutes and don't really feel connected to each other in any way. It bogs the whole album down and it never recovers. I did myself a different version of the album with better song order (also ditched couple and added one originally left out), and that made it so much better as a whole.

1) Killers 2) Seventh Son Can't be arsed with the rest but IMO Killers is their best album if you separate it from the "classic" Maiden sound.

People will kill me but I love the first 2 albums and Paul's vocals give something different which fit perfectly in them. Not saying that bruce is a bad singer of course, is just a preference

Just saw them live here in Argentina. They're rock solid as always and every band member is like 70 y old. It's insane. Just told my friends last night that I think Maiden is probably the most regular (stable in time) performant bands ever. They've never really had lows, dramas or breakups. Something truly rare to see in rock / metal. They're just legends. It's worth every penny and much more to go to their concerts. My favourite albums have to be Brave New World, The Number of the Beast, Seventh Son. Loved Dance of Death as well. Their entire discography is really pretty much perfect.

As a kid I was never so much in to the first two albums, but as I've got (much) older I honestly hold them up as some of my favorites from the band. I think Paul's vocals are brilliant on them. Not sure he could have pulled of Number Of The Beast, but those first two records - they're classics.

Somewhere in Time is easily my favorite Iron Maiden album. But I'm going to be nuts and actually put book of souls at my number two all time. In my opinion both of those albums are rock-solid and there is nothing uninteresting and there are no songs that I ever want to skip over between the two of them

Doing the Blazed Bailey era and especially the making of "The X-Factor" album Steve Harris had a really dark period in his personal life. Death of parents, divorce and band struggles hence the darker theme of the album and I can speculate a lower energy put into it.
