@@straty5598 Punk and metal are not as far apart as some gatekeepers on either side seem to think. Yeah, punk is generally more stripped down and simplified in song structures, but heck so is AC/DC, and they're usually labeled metal or even just hard rock. Paul DiAnno was into punk rock before joining Iron Maiden. The other band members got him also listening to more metal-oriented bands like UFO. But I don't think he ever stopped liking punk bands like the Ramones, too. DiAnno's vocal style was definitely more on the punky side, very gruff and harsh (in a good way). That's probably what people are thinking of when they say that early Iron Maiden had a bit of a punk edge. But don't say that to Steve Harris if you ever get the chance to meet him. He does NOT like that description! 🤣

@deantodd8103 I don't really hear it to be honest, I can maybe see it in Paul's appearance. This shows all of Bruce talent: this was an audition and he clearly adapted his voice to Di Anno's tempo and tone, with a light touch of his classic operatic-soprano voice...the next album he will totally replace Di Anno's punk-style-voice trademark and stablish his own style, then, years before, he will play this same songs at his own way. I was introduced to Iron Maiden by the 1990 album and they became my #1 rock band long time (To say nothing of Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and such greats). Then I listened to the 1981 album and others. Both albums have their own good singer. I like Paul Di'Anno's voice (RIP) on the 1981 album better.

Not many people know this but I was originally chosen after my amazing audition. But I had to turn down the offer so I could give Don Dokken vocal lessons.

His vibrato is strange for me to hear in these songs, given that Paul didn't have that. I like Paul's versions a little better but this is bad ass! And it all really started with Number of the Beast...Love Maiden! Truly amazing band and still to this fucking day!!!!💀☠️🤘🏻
