One thing I found this year is a substitute for the sawyer squeeze bags. I find they're a pain to fill with the tiny bottle cap opening. Six moon designs makes a bladder with the bottle cap end for the squeeze but with the zip wide open like your platypus bladder for easier filling from a stream or pool. I'll also filter one bladder with the squeeze and then carry both a dirty bladder and a clean bladder as a way to expand capacity when needed.

You can throw your rope over the branch hook the carabiner to the food bag. Then put your tail end of the rope through the carabiner and toss it over the branch as well, that will create a pulley similar to a snatch block and it makes it wayyyyyy easier to hoist the goods up 👍🏻

Ive backpacked a lot, but for some odd reason, ive always bought a 0 degree bag, even though i pack layers. Im planning on hunting in the back country this coming year, i am now thinking of just doing a 30-32 degree bag and use my layers. Thanks for making a point of that.

Great gear 👊🏻 to keep heat fins from melting on windburner type stoves use just 1inch of water or snow melted in bottom of cup and then ad snow after slow heating of burner

I really like that color combination of your McMillan stock. Was that from the factory,? What color is that from McMillan and what percentage of each color for the swirl combination?

Getting ready for a late season mule deer hunt in Colorado; mid-November hunt. Love the rifle setup; 13lbs is a solid build for 300 win mag. Love it! Super stable! What I’m struggling with is puffy pants for glassing or gortex bib overalls? I’m going back and forth. I saw you Brady with the 3/4 sitka puffy pants but do you have any other suggestions? Do they really keep you that warm in the high county or should I be thinking a heavier bib overalls product? Thank you for any suggestions. Do you like it because you already love the rifle and anticipate a longer shot? Also, the Bergers seem to be not so popular for many hunters. 215 grains seems awful big to me. A bullet with a sectional density of .240 is plenty of penetration so something around 140 grains is more than enough. I've hunted mule deer all my life which has been long and never had a problem with deer. We used to have what was called a Trophy Buck Season. Then you may have to shoot a long shot because those hunts seemed more like mountain sheep hunts, they were usually at timberline or above. A rifle like the 6mm Remington I used back then was great. Light and very deadly on anything in front of it.

This is great, but I think people need to start quoting weights that include total carried weight (food, water, firearm/bow, etc.) and only exclude worn clothing and footwear. Using your 44 lbs. pack + 2 liters water = ~ 4.4 lbs. + 10 lbs. rifle + ~ 10 lbs. food + 2.5 lbs binoculars and harness = at least 70 lbs.

Totally hear ya. I try to include every version since so many people talk weights differently. Which is why I included my exact weight of everything I carry in my Excel gear list that’s linked in the video description. My total weight of every single piece of gear plus rifle, water, food… is 72.77 pounds for this solo hunt. So you’re almost right on the money 👊👊 Glad you enjoyed the video.

Hey Dalton. I don’t talk about it much. But I’m blind as a bat! Like -8.00 on both my eyes. I can’t see my hand unless it’s like 5” in front of my face when I’m not wearing contacts. So I wear daily contacts and just put new ones in each day on a mountain hunt. Then I bring really old glasses too for safety in grizzly bear country at camp. I also keep an extra set of contacts in my bino harness just in case one pops out while hunting. It’s not that fun, and I’m really thinking about surgery but it’s a little more tough due to my eyesight. But I need to look into it again. Also, I try to splash my hands with water before taking my contacts out especially if I just cut up an animal that day.

Dalton I switched to daily contacts for this reason. Just take your contacts and some extras and like Brady said an old pair of glasses for camp/night time. Unless my eyes are bothering me I just sleep with them in most of the time.

@@daltonwarren I know this is old and you wear daily’s, but I actually bring a small bottle of the clear care for my 2-week lens. I prop the container upright in a boot wedged with socks or in my bino pack. Same thing with splashing hands a little with water.

Great question! My feet get so cold glassing! I’ve got good insulated boots, Marino wool socks and liners. I use unscented foot powder to stay dry and don’t put my boots on until time to hike. I’m thinking of using goose down jacket to wrap them up with! Also take boots off and let them air out while glassing.

Holly cow, just come to my house and sit on the porch with your rifle. The deer cross the yard in waves. When the right one comes along shoot it. Mule deer are like cloven hooved rats. I'll let you use my 30-30, the longest shot could be 50-60 yards. Many times we are able to harvest a mule deer when we are going elk hunting.
