My college roommate's girlfriend dumped like 4 pounds of 80/20 ground beef fat down the kitchen sink and clogged it up (cooks, this is back when people thought you should drain fat off of ground beef meat; also she was from Wisconsin). Our landlord was, in retrospect, an INCREDIBLY patient man who somehow was OK with a degenerate gang of college athletes completely destroying a house. But the clogged grease got him so mad that he had the plumber collect the grease from the P-trap in a bowl and leave it on the counter for us all to see, then he came over and lectured us all about the basics of plumbing. Can't remember the landlord's name. At the time I was insulted, but looking back, that guy was a very reasonable dude

1:33 Truth. Goodwill is a billion-dollar business disguised as a "nonprofit."
@michaeldonnan67674 күн бұрын
Not the truth, it's an urban myth. Do a little research. Good Will is a registered non-profit, therefore having no owner. The vast majority of their income, after paying their employees, goes to local job training efforts, mostly for disabled people. Charity Navigator gives them a 100% rating, which is rare.
@SkeeterValentine04 күн бұрын
So is the Red Cross. It doesn't mean you shouldn't give blood.
@frotoe92894 күн бұрын
It is as not-for-profit as any other organization. "Goodwill is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit". That means it's also a charitable not-for-profit--your gifts to it are tax deductible. Donations to for-profit companies are not tax deductible. Donations to other forms of not-for-profit are not tax deductible. There are not-for-profit things, like say clubs, and there are charitable not-for-profit things, like Goodwill, Red Cross, educational institutions, etc. But sure, people who work for Goodwill may be paid. That's allowed. There are a lot of people making > $1M working for charitable orgs. I've never been very happy that some of these charitable organization CEO's make megabucks (literally), but someone has to tell Congress to fix that. Google says Goodwill execs are pretty reasonably paid. "$650,989 for the CEO. $365,823 for the COO" I was following a KZbin dog rescuer for a while, and he had formed a not-for-profit to handle his donations and payouts to vets and such. I looked at an annual report. He took in $350K that year in donations, paid himself $200K, his wife $100K, and spent $40K on vets and food and such. Yeah...basically paying the household $300K/yr to be dog catchers. I unfollowed when I saw that.

It’s possible it’s just the most incompetent nonprofit company ever run or it’s laundering the money somehow that no one’s been able to figure out yet. Either way, they take in tons of money and the services they offer the community are suspect to say the least.

For a slower five hole goal, let me enter: Brodeur game 3 of 2003 Stanley Cup final. Devils up 2-0 in the series over the Ducks, tied 1-1 in the game. Brodeur, of the Devils, comes out of the net to handle the puck. Trips over nothing and loses his stick. Stick slides on the ice and redirects the puck directly between his legs, slowly, as he's falling, and into the net. 2-1 Ducks. Devils were able to tie it back eventually, but lost in OT. Ducks go on to make it a 2-1 series, then tie it up 2-2. Devils were able to retake everything and eventually win it all in 7, so the blunder is mostly forgotten. Had they lost? Woulda been a big one, lol

There’s a great interview with then-Jays pitcher / recent call-up Joe Biagini in which the interviewer asks him what the best part of being in the majors was, and without hesitation he said “the pants”. He explained that in the minors you kinda get what you get as far as unis and fit / they aren’t always comfortable to play in, but in the bigs you can have as many pairs of pants as you want till you find the pair that fits right.
