A heart rate less than 60 per minute is termed bradycardia.
Around 2% of the healthy population exhibit bradycardia, commonly among physically fit individuals.
Top symptoms of bradycardia include fatigue, dizziness, chest pain, shortness of breath, and fainting.
Aging is the most common cause of a slow heart rate, with cell degradation affecting heart's electrical impulses.
Symptoms of bradycardia in aging individuals often encompass fatigue and dizziness.
Lifestyle and genetic factors significantly influence the onset timing of heart-related aging effects.
Primary treatment for age-related bradycardia involves addressing any underlying chronic diseases and possibly pacemaker implantation.
Ischemic heart disease and heart failure are significant causes of bradycardia, damaging heart tissue and affecting its electrical system.
Diagnosis of ischemic heart disease includes ECG, stress tests, and angiography.
Treatment for ischemic heart disease might include nitrates, beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, angioplasty, stenting, or bypass surgery.
Heart failure symptoms include shortness of breath, fatigue, edema, and a persistent cough due to lung fluid.
Medications, especially those for hypertension and antiarrhythmics, contribute to 25% of bradycardia cases.
Hypothyroidism, characterized by reduced thyroid hormone release, slows metabolism and heart rate, treated with thyroxine.
Sleep apnea, particularly associated with obesity, can cause nighttime bradycardia.
Lesser common causes of bradycardia include electrolyte imbalances, infectious diseases like Lyme disease, and beneficial effects from supplements like omega-3 fatty acids, coenzyme Q10, and magnesium.

I have had a pulse of 44 for at least 10 years, recently dropping to 36, absolutely no symptoms and walk 5 miles at speed daily, including Dorset hills, at the age of 77. Recently medics panicked and sent me to a cardiologist. 2 days of full tests, and the cardiologist said "so why is everyone panicking?" Like age and blood pressure, pulse is just a number, NB I eat LOTS of butter and cream, yet my cholesterol is well within limits, and my sodium level is slightly below the desired level. If it ain't broke, don't fix it

I’ve had this my entire life. My resting heart rate is about 42. I never have had any symptoms and lead a very active lifestyle. It may be a problem at some point but it’s just normal for me.

I have a friend who was a long distance runner. His resting heart rate was 42bpm. He ended up having a heart attack at 51years old because blood pooled and clotted in his heart and ended up blocking an artery. Luckily he survived but is now on lifelong blood thinners.

I've had it since i was 35. The chest pains scare me to death. I've been prescribed Xanax for ptsd. But my stress test and echo were normal. It got down to 30 bmp when i sleep.

@@narmadadevi9708 they only happen to me in the morning. I have a propane fireplace I stand in front of for about 10 minutes each morning. You should see a cardiologist. Do you have any chest pains when you feel it or dizziness?

I am 84. I was a competitive runner for over 35 years, up until I turned 74. I've had 3 different PC physicians refer me to cardiologists because of low heart rate. In the past the cardiologists have looked at all the factors and said not to worry. Now, however, they are recommending a pacemaker. I don't run anymore but hike vigorously 3-5 times a week. I'm wondering if I should get a second opinion. I do have fatigue, but always figured it was due to my age.

Same here. My experience has been, for big ticket items like surgery, meds with huge side effects, and implants of any type, ALWAYS get a second opinion. Also, do it not with the same health care system but an entirely different one. This prevents the specialists from talking among themselves and exhibiting a herd mentality or just a deference to their colleagues. Good luck

It is quite possible it is caused by the beta blocker they might have put you on because of your heart attack. It happened to me and you may need a dose or medicine adjustment.

@somuchtruth2306 thankyou for replying . I've got my first vascular blood test next week so I can mention it now . I just assumed it was damage to my heart causing it so I'm very grateful . Thankyou

I am 28 years old and I’m suddenly suffering from bradycardia as well but I seen so many reason why and one of them make sense . Hypothyroidism can cause that and I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism . I been taking my medication for a week now and the bradycardia came back after starting to take my meds but they said it’s normal since the thyroid hormones are getting stabilized…idk I still worried since I’m an over thinker and suffer from severe anxiety and panic attacks
