Blessed are those who grieve for they shall be comforted; that's the way this masterpiece starts. I know there's no comment so far but I had to say it; I had to say it because that opening sentence unlocked me up inside from every single emotion I've had felt in my whole life. Sorry, had to say.

When I got home from a rehearsal in 2016 (we were to perform "Ein Deutsches Requiem" the next day), I had to stop for a quarter of an hour, because this movement made me weep. I'm not ashamed of my tears - it got me. It really got me.

To add to that, the entire Ein Deutsches Requiem begins and ends with the word "seelig". "Blessed". When I sang this in my college choir I had tears streaming down my face because in the seventh movement, the last vocal line heard is that word from the tenors and basses. "Blessed..." I just couldn't contain myself on stage.

We sang this with my chorus back in college. How exciting and beautiful. Thanks for putting up the score.

I'm performing this full requiem next Tuesday in a choir with orchestra. It is hard! I hope that we can do this beautiful music with its beautiful message justice! We have been using your videos on our own time for extra practice, and it has been incredibly helpful! Thank you!

Gore Cioran Awe, I'm kind of touched that you, a stranger, asked a follow-up question to my random comment. It was incredible. There were definitely mistakes, and we suddenly switched a couple people and I was beside the tenors, which I was not used to! But overall, it was powerful. All the work we put into it was worth it. It filled my soul and I will never forget it. My parents and grandparents drove down two hours to see me, and I was simply overjoyed to share the fruits of my labors with people I love. I am especially grateful for this experience since social distancing was put into place and our final concerts were all canceled. It is sad that I will never sing with that choir or even that choir director again, as it is my last semester at this college, but I was blessed to have such an incredible experience to hold onto. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to look back and gratefully remember something wonderful.
