This digital recording was made during the infancy of the music compact disc, then known as "Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) recording". The Adagio was recorded at a very low volume with respect to the available headroom. This remastering had to make compromises as increasing the volume and the use of dynamic reprocessing increased both the noise floor and harmonic distortions. The audio of this upload of the Adagio is approximately 2dB less than the other two movements uploaded. Unlike the out of tune barking and howling of Glenn Gould, Zimerman's singing was more pleasant and no attempt was made to suppress it in this remaster (both Gould and Zimerman are blessed with Absolute Pitch).
