🥲 I know this is such a old video but it’s literally the only video that explains what I AM DOING WRONG. The braid rhythm I already got down but it keeps TANGLING. This literally made me realize why, I wasn’t holding the crosses down 🤣 thank you!

@@samvillahair I've been French braiding my whole life but I felt that I was struggling too much to keep it tight and that it took too long too braid my daughters' hair, when I switched to your method, my finger would not want to extend out but when I got used to the sequence, and my middle finger cooperated, my braid went so so much faster and tighter as well.

I have to shout for ME! I have worn a French braid for many yrs in 90s... in my mind I diagramed my head as I would a ball, to decide where "my finger" would part each strip.... I maintained medium tension at first....then finally, gently pulled each section to relax the braid against the head; "romanticizing" the effect..French braid is timeless..for many daily circumstances...

The 2nd way you showed is how I was taught years ago for my horse's mane and tail. After 30 years of braiding I can whip a tight uniformed one out in the blink of an eye & am constantly hearing "HOW'D YOU DO THAT". Now they always ask me to do their hair or their little ones because kids don't want to sit still long enough for them. It just takes practice is all

How do you start a braid closer to the front? I see people doing French braids that are braided all the way up to the front hairline. Mine don't start to look like a braid until about halfway back back maybe around the ear. This is especially true when I try to French braid my own hair. I want to be able to look in the mirror, and see my braids. Usually it just looks like I pulled my hair back without braiding it. Then when I look at the back I can see the braids.

Thats because the thickness of the braid starts to get larger as you go back on that type of braid. You may want to play around with some different types of braids to see if you can get the effect your looking for! We have a braid playlist on our channel you could check out.

Tight French braids; only look good on people with lots of thick hair, (maybe thick and coarse hair; similar to horsehair )...which is beautiful!... 🤔 Fine / medium hair; not so much...
