I feel so bad for people with sparse or no edges. It is not funny and can happen to anyone. When realized that my edges were getting thin from my relaxers I realized that I had to make a change. Obviously the relaxer ingredients changed so I did too. I decided to go natural! Keep trying sisters! You can do this! I still do my braids and it has been a journey. Over time you will see what works for you!!

It can indeed be traumatic. 1. Maybe you should stop the braids and get into two strand twists because braids are heavy and pull on the hair. Then you should let your edges breathe. 2. Invest in a great hair serum or even consider trying minoxidil for your edges. 3. Keep your scalp clean by shampooing often and using a scalp treatment. The cleaner the scalp the sooner the hair will grow back. 4. Try at home red light therapy treatments. 5. Take a prenatal vitamin and make sure you get some zinc in your body. I wish you all the best. Take some pictures and track your progress for us. ❤️

My stylist does not believe in braids like this. She is sworn against it and barely likes to do it for a sew in…… Sometimes our hair just can’t take it and it’s ok.

Exactly! If the hair can’t take it: leave your hair alone! These styles can truly create irreversible damage and even balding!

@@HappyHairCoilyCurlsI agree 100%!! I know it’s difficult but the edges are the most fragile. It’s not worth it. If anyone is struggling, I recommend derma-rolling the area if it’s not scarred and using onion water to encourage growth. If the area is scarred, you will likely need to consider a hair transplant. We gotta be nicer to our edges and it doesn’t just affect Black women, I notice women of ALL races and nationalities struggling with thinning hair lines due to non friendly styles.

Just had a heated discussion with my daughter about the damage she’s doing to her kids. Most of the kids wearing these styles will have irreparable damage before adulthood. Is following trends and laziness worth the harm being done ? Nothing sadder than seeing babies with extensions and the message being instill that their own isn’t good enough.

Yes Ms. Barbara! You need to keep talking to her. She’s using the braids as a crutch instead of learning to love her daughter’s hair and learning to love doing to natural hair. She needs to invest in the right products, the right tools and set in place a routine!
