A good friend of mine collapsed right in front of me when he was 15 years old. He had no idea he had brain cancer, was rushed to the local hospital immediately, flown to a special clinic and had emergency surgery the same day. It was all quite dramatic. With radio and chemo that followed surgery, he was gone from school for a whole year. Looking at his MRI images, it’s incredible how much of the brain is gone and can be compensated for. He went through a lot, I know I don’t need to tell you. But here comes the good thing: we’re close to retirement now, no sign of that bloody cancer in almost half a century. You can do this!

It was said that the same thing was true of Apple founder Steve Jobs whom they estimate developed cancer in his 30s but didn’t know it until he was in his 50s. And doctors are often proven wrong. Anything is possible is we believe.

I heard an interview with a cancer researcher. He said not to give up hope and to keep getting treatments because cancer breakthroughs are happening so often, and the pipeline is full, what looks hopeless today could be curable in the not too distant future. I also read another statistic that I think is important to remember. Not all doctors or cancer centers are comparable. They found that people with cancer who were willing to travel for the best treatment lived 50% longer (if my memory serves me). Should you ever encounter a recurrence, look for the best doctor/surgeon in the world for your particular cancer type. Raise money if you need to, I would gladly donate. We all want you to live the long, happy life you deserve, Eireann.

I all honesty, there hasn't been any true development (read: breakthrough) since 2017. There's a lot of focus on prolonged treatment (which introduces a lot of side effects) but for certain cancers they're still clueless on how to eliminate the cause. A lot of so called "progress" you read about is targeted towards cancers like leukemia, which can be dealt with a lot more effective and efficient these days. But those have been curable for quite some time. I'm confident that humanity will eventually be able to treat most cancers successfully, but none of us will live to see that happen. That doesn't mean there isn't any hope for Éireann, on the contrary, but it doesn't hurt te be realistic.

My dear, I don’t know how is living with the fear of a new tumor appearing, but what I do know is that the only difference between you and me is that you've had a tumor and I haven't. But that does not make it more likely that I will live longer than you, in fact I am much older than you and logically I will leave sooner. what I want to tell you is that we all carry the danger of dying at any moment, either from an illness, from falling down the stairs ,from an accident... Nobody knows! You are doing very well, beautiful. Cry, laugh, scream, enjoy and let go because life is the moment and that what we have lived, tomorrow does not exist for anyone. A big hug.

Hello Éireann, this is my first post to you. I have watched nearly all of your updates. I survived a hemorrhagic stroke about 5½ years ago, when I was 55 years old. By all medical accounts, I should not have survived. They don't know how or why I survived. It remains a mystery. I have high blood pressure. I also had a heart attack and a seizure when I collapsed from the stroke. I take daily medication. My point - There is something deep inside all of us that doctors cannot regulate. It is the will to live. Some have a stronger will. I can see it in your eyes that you have that same will. You are inspiring beyond explanation. It is amazing to see such a strong super human. I believe that every single person who watches your videos, wants you to live to a very old age. You have so much life in your eyes. I see hope too. Fight for all you've got inside you. You are very powerful! ~ Dave.

@@diaryofeireann 🥰 I learned that there are two ways to go when you are facing your own mortality: 1) You can fall into the deep well of despair and feel even worse or 2) You can continue to do like you are doing now - by sharing your journey, and being that powerful light that guides you through the tunnels of the unknown. After I was released from the hospital, I began writing a journal online; and I shared it with whoever wanted to read it. I wanted to remember everything I felt and did while I was healing. It was the greatest therapy, and it still is to this day. What you are doing is giving hope to everyone. You have this special gift, this special purpose to share every nuance, every stage of your journey - all the peaks and valleys, every step, with the thousands of people online who only know your story from afar, and yet they still feel like family. Several years from now, when the day comes when you watch these videos again, your long journey will reveal how strong you were, how much stronger you have become, and just how much you have grown as a wonderful, beautiful human being.

Nice words, although it doesn't always work. But it is true that we must always fight to maximize our chances. I had many severe diseases, and by not giving up and reacting smartly you may have better outcomes. Also, do not always believe doctors blindly. Pick and read latest research papers and do your own analysis. That's how I found a very high steroid treatment for my condition recently issued by Mayo clinics that no doctor knew about and they thought I was crazy to take such a high dose (I took the exact same dose as recommended in this case report from Mayo clinics). Doctors often think they know and understand everything while it is super rare that they simply know more than 50% of all up to date knowledge within their own specialty (they earn enough money to not spend evenings or weekends deepening their knowledge)

Eireann I *heard* and *felt* you when you said you know what you're going to die from. Being hyper aware of your own mortality is neither normal nor easy, nor anything someone who doesn't know can relate to. I'm hoping against the odds (for both of us) because stats are just stats after all, but I think mainly it's just about ignoring it, isn't it? I SO understand being at the doctor's and not being given hope (my doctor's line was "let's not write you off *just* yet"). Sending you so much love and understanding and huge hugs xxxxx And your positivity is bolstering to all of us

You are amazing. I would never have been able to keep people informed about my progress - different cancer but Stage 4. I just 'phoned my family on diagnosis, told them how long treatment would take, told them of my prospects of success, and declared radio silence until treatment was over. That was 12 years ago. I was lucky, but that scansiety (mostly blood test anxiety in my case), is real. Half way between tests (they went on for 5 years post treatment), I began counting down to the next. The week between test and Consultant appointment awash with anxiety. All the very, very best to you Éireann. ♥🙏

I have had a brain tumor for almost 17 years. It’s benign but there have been changes. I get an MRI every 6 months and also see my neurologist. My most recent appointment, I saw the neurosurgeon again because there was another slight change. I haven’t seen the surgeon in 14 years. I do what the neurologist says every time I see him, I enjoy my life and my family. It’s okay to have feelings! This is a tough time. It’s okay to advocate for yourself! If there is something you’re uncomfortable about, you can speak up. Don’t feel bad. This is your life! I agree for getting a second opinion. I do pray for you all the way across the pond in the United States. I originally would go to my appointments with a list of questions since my memory was affected by the tumor. No one knows how much time we have left or how we will die so try not to worry about it and just continue to live your life each day with as much happiness and love that you can muster. I live with a disability and god knows I can get down some days but if I surrendered to my thoughts I'd never leave the house and would just merely exist. My Dad has recently decided he wants no treatment for metastatic prostate cancer and my Mum is very fragile as well with heart and lung issues but they continue to live as though every day is an opportunity to see another sunrise and another sunset. I have never wanted to give anyone a big Hug as much as I wish I could hug you Eireann. I could see you strggling so much to get through this without crying and it brought tears to my eyes. You have so many prayers from me. I also wanted to tell you to never give up on hope. There are new things everyday in the fight against Cancer and you just need the one that will work for you. What a beautiful woman inside and out you are and you deserve the best! Big Hug for you

Hi Eireann, good to see ya! Thanks for update. Just wanna say it’s ok not to be ok! What you’re going through is tough and it’s important that you can express your feelings openly, which you are doing with great courage! I’m glad you have Devon and your family with you. Good luck with your appointment during the week. Stay strong, and keep asking questions! Xx

You are so brave! I give you so much credit for going through this in the way that you are doing. A church friend of mine has the same cancer as you, and she's just been through a 2nd round of chemo. She also has an electrode therapy that is continuous (a portable device that she wears almost all day long) to apparently keep any regrowth at bay. The downside - she has to keep her head shaved all the time. So, her hair was something she had to give up in order to hopefully have more years ahead. Thank you for continuing to share your journey here. You're not alone and you have a diverse community here on KZbin cheering you on :) Hugs from Wisconsin, USA.

Your energy is so beautiful, and you would be so comforting for anyone to come across your videos in experiencing what you have endured, as they are reaching out desperatly, to not feel alone, not that anyone would want another to go thru, but to reach out for comfort. I think, as you said, your Dad & Sister there, yes, they get updates, but to actually experience this and be present with you, is a whole different feel, and becomes much more real. just even the dr. Walking through door and sitting down which takes seconds, but seem like an hour went in that moment...uhhh Idk what brought me to your video actually, but ive watched a lot of them today. Happy to see you have so much support from a lot of people and your family is amazing... ❤❤❤

I was thinking about you again this morning, and I wanted to say how grateful I am for you and your videos. I have had a major loss in my life (several of them actually) and I found myself getting down this morning. In that moment, the paradise I live in transformed into a very sad place, full of tears. Then I thought of you and something you said, that it's strange knowing how your life will end, so be present, be grateful, be kind and loving. It helped me reframe my present moment. I thought of you and how it's all right in front of you, there's no looking away from it, and how I still have the luxury of not knowing and in that, the gift of time (or the illusion?). Though we will all know at some point in our lives, I do not know now and that is so easily taken for granted. So thank you for reminding me of how precious and short life is. I'm hoping and hoping and hoping that the next answer you get brings you an alternate approach and a glimmer of hope. Sending love and thanks for you.

Your positivity through everything you've been through is absolutely amazing. I hate seeing you start to tear up because I know how hard you try to stay positive and it makes me tear up too, but at the same time, your feelings are totally valid and it's okay to not always feel happy and positive. Life can really suck and be so unfair sometimes and it's okay to feel however you feel about that. But I wish you nothing but the best in your health journey and I pray you have way more happy days than sad!

Dear Eireann - you are such a lovely and beautiful person - inside and out and I admire your strength and courage in fighting this disease and sharing your story with us. Being faced with your own mortality in that way is something many of us cannot relate to but I do believe in the sentiment that many others have shared - life is unbelievably precious and can be over in a heartbeat for all of us. Those of us who are not currently fighting a serious disease forget that all too easily and take life for granted. Live in the moment, make each day count and make the most of it- we all do well to remind us of that. I wish you all the very best Eireann - keeping you in my thoughts xx

Don’t lose hope, science and medicine is always evolving and improving! I'm sorry you weren't given a different opinion, I'm sorry for what you are going through.. Our world is changing so quickly, one thing today and something so different tomorrow, let's all hope that the doctors, science and experts have a breakthrough. I know that sounds farfetched but breakthroughs have happened for many things over the years and how great would it be if it happened for you. You are very positive and it's sweet for you to share what you are going through, especially to help others who are also going through what you are experiencing. I continue to hope and pray that you get better news as you go along.

Éireann - Glad to see you're staying positive and that the move was not so bad. I agree with you that you should push for continued 12-week MRIs. Based on my (limited) medical knowledge as an imaging technologist, I very much think that keeping on a 4X/yr. MRI schedule is wise, especially considering your young age and diagnosis. Months matter when we're talking about cancer (especially cancer where the science is still pretty...flexible), and despite the (temporary) scanxiety, more frequent imaging will likely put your mind at greater ease as well, while giving your doctors a really good chance to catch recurrence when it's minor, which could result in a far better outcome. These types of cancer are so poorly-understood that I really think you have a fighting chance. Considering how few people face this kind of diagnosis, and how poorly our collective understanding of this kind of cancer really is, despite the concurrence of a bunch of radiologists and oncologists (across 2 nations), I do think that hope is warranted. And I'm glad your personality tends towards positivity, because that's a barrier that few people are able to cross. Please keep us updated, and I wish you all the best.

I started watching your videos because we are the same age and I had an MRI about 1.5 years ago where they found a thickened region deep in my head and they weren’t sure if it was a brain tumor. I have basically been told that I will regularly (every 4 months) get MRI scans and it will either never grow or I will have a low grade glioma. The unknown of it all is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

I'm glad to hear your MRI came out well, though as someone who has dealt with several quite serious illnesses/diseases over the last 20+ years, I know how you felt when you were kind of seeking an answer that physicians are not willing to go that far with, so you feel a bit like you're left hanging, so to speak. The one thing I've always tried to keep focus on is that none of us are even promised tomorrow, so every day we make it through, it truly is a blessing.

Hello Sweetie, you’re doing so good with processing your health updates and keeping positive and bouncing back after some down-mood days. It’s hard to appreciate right now, but the strength that’s growing inside of you, and the insight and control that you do have with treatments and management of the situation, could empower you. ‘What if it all works out’ … the only ‘what if’ we should all aspire to live by. Positive vibes for endless days of feeling good, experiencing new adventures, making new memories, and being hopeful for new and upcoming advances in medicine. You’re unique, a bright light, and sharing so much wisdom and inspiration with your loving community. 💚

Énireann, this is my first time viewing your journey with brain cancer. When my team of brain cancer doctors told me in May 2024, I didn't believe it. Just finished radiation and am still taking a chemotherapy pill. My next MRI is August 29. My cancer is high-grade glioma benign tumor of cerebral meninges. Here is what I believe, when God is ready to me to die, I will. I have prayed and asked God to let me live. I believe God has answered my prayer. I am praying God will let you live as long as you want to. I will keep you in my prayers. God bless you.

High grade benign glioma? High grade gliomas are not benign.. they are extremely malignant and very fatal brain tumors. If the terminology you are using is correct, most if not all gliomas, especially glioblastoma are incredibly malignant and almost always fatal brain tumors..

The hospitals are just seeing tumors everyday, thats why they will give you the standard information. Always remember things can be different for everyone, especially you dont fit the typical age and health criteria, so you could be the lucky one since your young :) There are a lot of ppl talking about how they was only given some month to live, but are tumorfree for over 10 or 20years and so on and i believe it can be you too ❤ keep hope, even if they talk so hopeless about that. If you watch some ppl sharing about how they overcame everything and what they have tried it could help you :) ! 🎉 I hope you dont feel too much pressure and fear and wish you the best, you can be cured 💖.💖

Every oncologist hears the same questions from patients about their chance of longevity and if there are any new special treatments ,they have patients that die frequently from cancer,it is a very hard life to take as a human and they also deserve respect and patience as when you are asking questions they have somones family calling for help as they have found out a member to be terminal...the best thing is to type out questions on paper and if time allows have the oncologist answer the questions right there or email the answers back to you asap.
