This is my 1 year after brain surgery update! From my craniotomy to remove my tumour, anti seizure medication, MRIs, waiting for results and everything in between.
It has been a crazy year of my brain cancer journey but I’m so proud of myself for getting through it and so grateful for everyone that has supported me. THANK YOU 🥰💛

I hate how people expect you to have a big scar in order to be telling the truth about having brain surgery. I know there are ways to minimize scars after surgery. Glad you're doing well.

Mine will be coming out my nose , which is random and I didn't even realise that was possible for surgeons to do until I got a pituitary tumour .❤

I got diagnosed with a low grade Glioma in March 2024 and had a craniotomy a couple weeks later. I just had my next follow up MRI yesterday and will get the results next week. Mine was located on the parietal lobe area. I believe I had a near complete resection of the tumor (almost 100% removed). Were you diagnosed recently?

No tumor with me but I had a seizure about a 15 months ago. They put me on anti-seizure meds (Levetiracetam 1000 mg 2x /day). The meds made me slow and useless. I tapered off in April and May, and felt better immediately but it took several more months to feel normal again. I decided that for me, the chance of having another seizure was worth getting off the meds and luckily I have had no more seizures.

🎉🥳 Best of luck tapering down from the meds. My suggestion is do to it slowly and be patient. Rembember, there's the short effect and the long effect. I dont know if keto diet would apply to you or not, but it was originally developed as an anti-epileptic therapy so if you're thinking about reducing your medications there's that. Im sure you've probably already heard that hundreds of times but just in case you haven't .... And your courage and preparedness to share your experience is very inspiring Eireann.

What a fine example of a human being. Your precious spirit will get you through life's challenges on the side of light. Am on Gabapentin for pain, so aware of the "dumbing" effect😢 Also definite, out of nowhere, depression. Had to go down on dose. You experiencing emotional side effects with it? Going down will be way more risky for you. God bless and may you feel his comforting presence as you deal with this❣️ And enjoy the heck out of planning your wedding...and honeymoon...and growing closer to eachother...all life's gifts❤❤❤!

I'm glad your recovery went so well. I faced the same problems, Ependymoma size of an egg. Sadly there were some issues while the operation and I got a stroke. I will never fully recover from this but it makes me happy when other people had more luck and can live their lifes on.

You got this Princess Warrior. Can’t always tell with scars and hair. A colleague had brain surgery and it was done up the nose so it depends where tumour is where the scars will be if any.

I am on an anti-seizure medication as a psychiatric mood stabilizer (lamictal) and although it has definitely helped me immensely I do notice cognitive deficits, so you are probably right in saying that it's probably the seizure meds, at least a good chunk of it. No matter what you take it for it slows down your brain activity, bad and good.

Depovera or Lupron? Tried both, but was awful experience. Didn't last long, thankfully. They make you feel like you're on steroids, permanently; and then there's the constant gushing😮😅 Instinctively knew something NOT right with these shots. Thank God I'm good. Waiting for brain tumors from cell phones. Grrrr. We're you on it?

I had brain surgery, for something completely different, and I have a scar behind my ear. It is now two years since my stage 4 Ovarian cancer diagnosis. I'm but about the fact that I was repeatedly at my family Dickey's and the last thing he gave me before I went to the emergency clinic was herbal tablets for bloating....3 days late o could hardly bribe because of the fluid build up in my abdomen and bend my L lung. At least 12Litres of 7:11 fluid was removed..... I didn't think I was going to live to Christmas 22. But here I am... With a granddaughter due at Christmas. Take care.

Hello, beautiful! You're just as gorgeous as you were the first day I saw you. I just remembered Elizabeth Taylor had a brain tumor removed in her later years and she was beautiful too. She was a movie star, in case you don't know! It doesn't seem like it's been a year to me, but I'll bet it does to you. You seem to be in good spirits and a very strong woman also. I'm happy you're doing so well, Éireann. Today is Thanksgiving in the States and it's certainly a good day to give thanks for everything we have (like you) and many other things. My father used to tell me, "You have a roof over your head, food to eat and clothes to wear. You don't need anything else!" Your surgery was in the temporal lobe, which plays an important role in memory, so even if you weren't on anti-seizure meds, it wouldn't be unexpected to have problems. It is odd to be on not only one but 2 antiseizure meds, especially if you haven't had a documented seizure in about a year. Here in the US, if you go 6-12 months seizure free, they usually check an EEG and then try to wean off the med altogether if there's no evidence of subclinic seizures. (I'm a US based neurosurgeon, although I don't expect you to believe that...) Anyways, thank you for sharing your story with us. I am cheering you on from across the pond!

Donated a chunk of my temporal lobe 10+ years ago. Brain surgery sucks. Seizures suck. Try cognitive behavioral therapy for memory problems. Make sure you record your "pre-seizures" (the small "brief" ones you're having could be partial seizures like I still have). Best of luck on your journey!
