I got some water up my nose from a slip n slide here in Texas, and now I’m feeling sinus pressure, and mucus drainage. I’m panicking (probably irrationally), but my mom is having the same symptoms despite not having touched water - which makes me think it’s a cold or something minor. I’m gonna see a doctor in a few days but I’m losing sleep over this fear. I know it’s not common. Edit: it was just a cold!!! I’m alright. Reading my comment back now is making me laugh, because it really was super irrational. It’s a super rare bug to be infected by, so there’s really (and I can’t emphasize this enough) no reason to be scared of it so long as you don’t purposefully hop into warm lakes and start inhaling underwater constantly.

@Khabib nurmagomedov I would doubt it, because tap water is purified with other methods. Also it has low amounts of chlorine in it which as stated in the video will kill these amoeba. You can test it if you have AgNO3, but we tested it in lab and yep there was some Cl in the tap water. That's what we used for comparison to other things that contained Cl.
@cindysnow8024 жыл бұрын
Some lady did get it from tap water using a neti pot.
@hitwalkhook38314 жыл бұрын
@@cindysnow802 Just asking, how did the lady get it from tap water??? It is impossible due to the purification system. The tap water you get is not purified through some survival tips guide or smth like that. It is usually heated up to above 100 C°(which by the way no virus should survive even with protective layer due to denaturation) then it gets condensated which gives back pure, not hazardous water. Then they add Chlorine to it, to break any harmful parts left if any.(proteins consists of NH2(3)+ on one side and COO(H)- on the other and through hydrogens they bond forming either NH3 or COOH depending on where is last hydrogen, BUT Chlorine can take away to form NH2Cl or NHCl, etc. If you search up NH2Cl you will even find information about how it reacts with mucus etc. In swimming pools and that's why chlorine water is usually clean, however in case of virus it is neccessary to heat up water to denaturate it, what water companies tend to do.) So technically from the virus there should be nothing harmful left in tap water. I guess the lady was already infected from another already infected surface already OR the water company messed up some big sht(which i doubt highly). Anyway, from clean tap water you shouldn't get infected.
@cindysnow8024 жыл бұрын
Im not sure but i think it might have been well water. Ill post the article if i can find it. Ideally yes id hope our tap water is safe but sometimes there may be run off esp during flooding. I grew up by the ocean in Massachusetts, and my parents instilled in me the notion that swimming in lakes (and eating fish from lakes) was gross, long before I learned about brain-eating amoebae. What a good random, unpredictable way to die. 😢

So I jumped into canyon lake in central Texas 4 days ago and water shot up my nose, And then I coughed it out. The water was warm, but it wasn’t stagnant. There were white caps on the lake, the water was deep and this lake is all limestone, so the water is blue/clear. Should I be worried about the amoeba?

Do amoebas have to be forced up the nose through water or can they still get in without water going up your nose
@taylormade43935 жыл бұрын
John Carl They can only get in through the nose. It is also found in tap water.

@taylormade43935 жыл бұрын
John Carl I don’t think it has to be forced up the nose. People get infected by just dunking their face underwater at infected lakes or bodies of water. I hope this helps.

Bro. Help me. I was swimming with my friends in their pool. I had a cold but it was getting better. Just a cough and a runny/stuffy nose. I dived into the water and it got up my nose , it’s a salt water pool. After that I went home and used my dads neti por. He cleaned it with cold tap water and just shook the water out of it. There was still rap in the neti pot just not a lot cause he shook it out He then got the water we drink, the purified water and filled the neti pot with it. Then put the salt and gave it to me to use. Then I heard about this and I am freaking out. I have been having headaches on my left side of head and back left side of head and that alone is enough to scare me. I live in Texas too, where a lot of cases were reported. Now I do still have a cold, but I’m paranoid.Do I have reason to worry?
@TinyMedicine5 жыл бұрын
Congratulations. You don't seem to have brain eating ameoba! Swimming pool: properly treated pools are hostile for the amoeba. Salt water is also unfavorable for it. Neti pot: tap water supply is usually well purified. Then your dad filled it with drinking water. These sources are less likely to be contaminated with the amoeba. Headache: headache alone doesn't mean an infection. Seek medical care of you develop other symptoms like fever, seizures, confusion, vomiting. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about amoebic meningitis. But: if you ever going to use a net poti again, always make sure to use only distilled water.

Tap water is usually purified. Purified water is hostile for the amoeba. While it's theoretically possible, it's unlikely to catch the amoeba that way.
