It's been over 25 years since my car accident. My accident was on April 13, 1996. That was a Saturday afternoon when this happened. I was in the hospital for 10 days short of 3 months. I was hit on the left side of my body. Most of my bones, from my head to my hip were broken. I was told that I would not be able to walk, talk or do anything normal. I fooled them, I am walking, talking and I graduated from high school with my class in May of that next year. Then 5 years later, I graduated from college with a degree in Natural Science.

There's a sense of loneliness in being a survivor of a severe traumatic brain injury. Across all aspects of my life, I'm affected. As a mother, a partner, a daughter, a sister, a friend and etc I am constantly faced with how my TBI effects my relationships. I feel such an inability to survive and adapt to life. This year marks 15 years since my accident and I can clearly see how much I have and continue to struggle with daily life. It often feels like nobody around me really gets it... Thank you for sharing this, it's comforting knowing I'm not as alone as it feels I am.

I will be praying for you! Know that you are not alone. I had a TBI almost 3 years ago now. I feel at times much of what you have mentioned and day to day, most of us do not encounter many people with TBI's, so it is easy to feel alone. I wanted to suggest joining this Facebook group: 1 PINK Concussions Women's Group. The women in this group have greatly helped to enducate myself on my TBI and have made me feel not alone! Just know that countless people suffer from what you are and are also struggling. You're not alone and you are just as important and cared for as before your injury. Do your best to continue to advocate for yourself and seek guidance from others who understand what you are experiencing. I hope this group could help you! Will be praying for you 💗💗💗

Accepting that I am a different person is the hardest part of my TBI. My family and friends turned away from me, and that, I can accept - because I am NOT me. But, who am I? What I was, was amazing: creative, energetic, high-functioning, I earned $250K the year of my accident. I miss all those things, but those "things" are gone. I want to BE who I am, and I can't seem to re-establish how to find out who that is NOW. 27 years after my auto accident and I am floundering, confused, and getting more depressed. I can't afford to hire someone to help me, and I realize - I can't do it on my own. This is an excellent video, but how do I get others to understand that I have lost my "executive functions", and that I am NOT lazy nor ignorant? I have tried some rehab and cognitive therapy and it did help, but financially it is an impossible goal to get help. I used to do yoga and meditation but my attention span is about 3 seconds. NOTE: YT keeps unsubbing me from this channel. I have signed up for your weekly videos on your website and don't see them in my Inbox?

One of the biggest changes for me was what others call spiritual, but it came natural to me. And that was, before I always thought I was an individual locked inside a brain, and that I had a body and I had a brain. I was a Christian also. In a matter of a couple of weeks I no longer believed in god. Then the identity issues started. I no longer believed in a separate self. I now feel that ‘I’ (this separate individual) is a concept. A representation of matter (i.e, neuronal activity and gene expression etc.). Strange.

When I was 19 and serving in the army, I was walking in an aircraft hangar very swiftly carrying a number of objects in my arms, when a helicopter rotor blade smashed me in the front of my head. I was taken to the hospital where a physician's assistant just poked at my skull bones and sewed up my scalp. They gave me 800 mg Motrin and told me just to go to my barracks room and relax. I never felt the same afterwards I was a squared away soldier with desires to become a pilot. My executive functions were all messed up but at the time I had no idea what even that was. I was basically just a kid. I started having behaviors that I didn't think were bad, but other soldiers begin to make comments on new things I began to do. Things that were just not like me to be doing. After being discharged from the military I found it very difficult to hold a job I have had 34 jobs since I got out and my life has been an incredible roller coaster of emotions and problems. My wife who happened to know me before my head injury, has encouraged me to get with the VA to try to get disability for my injury but I don't know if they will help me I just have to try for my family.

I have recently started within the last 6 months treating with Marijuana up until then i feel like my brain was not healing doctors offered me no real releaf. I know i am different now where before that point i didnt see why people were telling me i was different. I now see and feel the difference, such as most say video's as i look completely normal i can relate too, i need counseling for this but as insurance has cut me off after the first yr and no health insurance i can't recieve treatment for this among glasses that help i do use some very good noice canceling headphones i find the biggest help for now i have the glasses with yellow tint that help i cant afford to update them which needed updating 3 months after i got them are 1500 dollars to update. Im at a stand still for treatment. I have a college degree and unable to work lost my health insurance 6 month after accident due to my job terminating me because of not being able to return to work. Im so frustrated with this whole situation totally! I just want to get better but absolutely no resources or the know how. I am screaming for help like im drowning this is not my fault however, everything thus far feels like it is.

As you get older does a TBI cause more problems in day to day life. Sometimes I can be on the spot with thinking then again I can go out on a limb that leads to self destruction. It all seems the same at the time but it is not. Never relax , barely sleep more than 5 hours at one time. So many things at one time it is like 4 puzzles being put in one box . Being told to figure it out in the dark.

It does not appear you are doing this on you tube anymore. I have spent time looking for information to help me in my recovery from a severe brain injury, how I did not find this sooner I do not know. On March 2017 I was in a car accident on the highway on my way to work. 10 minutes later a semi truck wrecker hit me going 65 mph. My injury is front and back and I am a completely different person. I had to relearn how to read, brush my teeth, brush my hair, eat correctly and deal with the constant flooding of emotions and overload due to the simplest of things. It has been a miserable life since. The case is still not settled, actually returned to work but could not perform even minor work so they found a way to fire me, I had custody of my kids but the ex wife used the injury against me and was given custody, friends avoid me and family even distance themselves. I have sold all I had and nearly starved and had no way to attend therapy til I was approved for disability, If you are beginning recovery, let me tell you your about to face utter hell and you will be very lucky to have any help. It’s a wonder I survived the accident much less being virtually left for dead.

I have severe adhd and during my sophomore year playing rugby on kickoff I went to make a tackle and the guys knee ended up hitting the top of my dome piece and I was out for idk about 15 seconds till my coaches woke me up and I tried to stand and fell right back down and obviously I had a concussion but the scary thing is as time goes on I’m feeling more disconnected from everyone else and I feel like After that night I’ve been just a totally different person and I have no idea how to explain it besides just that more of the “tv screens” ( that’s what I call my thoughts with adhd) in my head are more blurry and snowy than the ones actually working and idk what to do. It’s been about 6 years now... eyes are WAY more sensative to light than before I get random head aches here n there for like 20-30 seconds that hurt, my short term memory has damn near doubled in how bad it is and I just have a different personality now and part of it is I get frustrated with it and myself and others very very easily and I stress day n night about why I can’t seem to just control my head and do things like I used too. I don’t know exactly what to do as in helpin myself out or finding out what even really happened? I played football and rugby nonstop throught high school too so there’s def other instances where I could’ve received more concussions...

You can rent home units a month at a time. A company that offers that service will probably have answers to usage, but basically the home units have oxygen levels that are consistent with being below sea level - - in other words, you can probably use it as much as you like if you rent or buy one.

@@yardape99 It sounds like you are referring to mHBOT not HBOT. mHBOT is not hyperbaric. HBOT sessions in much of the world (Mexico City, Indonesia, Egypt, England, etc) for $5 to $20 USD per session.

You are not alone. This is the usual response. Seek out the Brain Injury Association in your state and ask them for a recommendation for a dr that gets it.

Can you tell me what happens to your brain when the trauma has happened to the back of your brain?.

Oh boi. It's not great I can tell you this. Imagine a video on youtube loading, it plays 15 seconds and then it buffs. Do this process of a couple of hundred times until you reach the end of the video and you've got a back TBI. I can't tell which one is the worse, because although it does not affect my daily life in terms of decision making for instance, everything I undertake whether it is a small task such as answering a simple question to reader seems immensurable. Because you can't do it although you want to, you quickly become frustrated at yourself and your self-esteem dwindles at the speed of light as you start to think of yourself as worthless. I recently wondered if I will be able to take the competitive exam to become a teacher... In conclusion, I'd say as bad as the front TBI

I have a TBI which effected almost all areas of my brain, literally had to learn to read and write and function. Only 7 years into it so far and I’m 20 years old. The feeling of not knowing your composition, not remembering who you were and used to be and now ur just a body with unfamiliar voices in your head, voices that are stronger than you- control your body more than you can. You feel so out of touch, every task you start starts 60 other little tasks and all of them dont get finished and ur left at the end of the day remembering 10 of the 60 you didn’t do. You’ll figure out the rest of those tasks at random times you come across, life seemingly never seems to go routinely, every routine you make last’s only 3-4 days because ur jusy distracted and it’s not ur fault, your brain simply doesn’t remember you have a routine and you go one morning w out it then the next and then you wake up 3 weeks later like “what the fuck I had a routine” I’m in real estate now with my traumatic brain injury and trying to get my life in a straight line because I have a baby now too and i can tell you it’s like playing life on veteran level

Yes, that is absolutely true. Eating an anti-inflammatory diet is crucial to optimizing our brain function. My video interview with Nora Gedgaudas goes into that in really helpful detail. As far as your bet..... I win!! I have had no sugar and very few carbs since last October! As an ex-sugar addict, I am very proud!
