Brain scans enable Psychologists and Neuroscientists to look inside the brain without having to open the patient's skull. In this video we cover four key types of brain scan that every Psychology student needs to know:
1) Computerised Tomography (CT) Scans
2) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Scans
3) Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) Scans
4) Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Scans

Having a psychology major, if I apply to a PhD program in which I'll have to do research on psychology and MRI, for example, looking into areas of Brain of people with anxiety through MRI. Then will I have to learn MRI deeply? Like physics and all technical stuff?

Great video! Another important set of technologies concerns 'listening to' rather than imaging the brain, like single/multi unit recording. I wonder if it's possible to combine more traditional imaging with these types of experiments to get functional data that is more temporally precise.

Oh yes, that's a really good point. It does show how we are so visual-centric in our thinking that this can get in the way of us "seeing" alternative, sometimes better, approaches. Thanks for your comment!

Nice video! As a student of medical physics, I have one note CT = Computed Tomography (it is more accurate, because one image reconstruction requires bunch of computations).

NICE VIDEO (really stimulated my Visual/Audio Cortex that traveled down my mid brain and traversed the Limbic system into LongTermMEM) Hi, How does the Endocrine System work? Does it include Sexual Arousal and as mammals can our Sex Organs be stimulated without sexual thought? Can Infrared Tech be utilized as electrodes?

how can you tell if you have ADD with one of these machines and do you know about Dr.Amem spect machine
@jasminealana1904

Goood question. I've been in contact with Dr. Amen's clinic, and unfortunately there are no facilities near me. They can provide some information but I really need the actual scan to get actual information. What I like, and what I've heard, is not only can a SPECT scan evaluate what part of the brain might be dysfunctional, it can also provide info about what meds may help treat the brain instead of just hitting darts on the wall. I've been trying meds for years. Nothing has helped. Except maybe the ones they're limited in dispensing such as dextroamphetamine and Clonazepam. Another rant for another time. The machine is SUPER expensive but man, if it could detect and help my anxiety and all the them diagnosis...I'd do about anything to get the cash cuz I highly doubt my insurance will cover it. Anyway I'm looking into as well and other scans that are covered by my insurance, so maybe I'll get there someday. One time, I told my psychiatrist would like to donate my live brand to science lmao use it to perhaps help another even if it cost me my life cuz I was no longer interested in living. He kicked me out 😄 mid-session lol that's not an easy feat 🤣 Interesting topic you brought up and I hope we get some solutions. Quickly.

Hey why there was a pair of shoes appearing at 1:30 from nowhere ? All my brain attention is hold into that question i think we need to brain scan me to delineate the reason of the shoes focus !
@PsychologyUnlocked
@PsychologyUnlocked 8 ай бұрын
🤣 go to 1:12 and you'll get your answer! The shoes indicate when we're talking about a structural scan and the runner signifies when we're talking about a functional scan. Structural - what does some look like? Functional - what does something do?

🤔 on the other hand, sir... one question .. so ... i believe psychology is good but thy forget a lot of things... like small things, atoms and nanobots and stuff...
@PsychologyUnlocked
@PsychologyUnlocked 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for your message :) in some ways psychology goes even smaller than atoms, measuring electrical impulses and neurotransmitters that journey between cells. There'll be a lot more research on wearable tech and implant tech over the next few years too as people seek to engage with cutting edge technology further

Great explanation and wonderful content information! However, I would say the insensitive joke or comment in the beginning of the video about a cadaver was a bit inappropriate and a very undignified way of respectfully referring to a cadaver or corpse.
