Today's Business Blaze Meme Count (from your friendly Meme Accountant). But first - Simon ... Over an hour long episode? I'm going to need assistants at this rate. So much ground to cover... my head is spinning. Thank you for the mentions and is the cartoon with me in available as a jpg or something? I'd love to have it on my office wall. My wife works as an office admin for accountants... so might be fun. By the way... Playing your opening at half speed, I got 22 slaps/taps and I may have missed one as well. Damn you Simon Whistler!!! During the video: Script slaps: 2 Script taps: 8 Tablet taps: 4 Rim-shots: 5 Trouble talking: 7 Smash that dislike button: 2 Simon gets lost in the script: 2 Samsung and Android Master Race: 2 Comic Sans: 8 (and I'd love to type this in Comic Sans, but I don't think YT allows fonts in comments) You're a clown: 1 Thank you Alphabet/Business Daddy: 3 Greta Thunberg laser eyes: 2 F*uck ff Microsoft Bob/Clippy: 3 Insults Danny: 3 OOOOOHHHHhhh: 2 Unpronounceable German name (Hannasch... whatever): 2 Green Cross Code Man who was Darth Veder: 3 Cocaine references (addicted are we then Simon?): 2 Healthy Hipster Juice: 1 F*uck Hipsters: 1 Number of times Simon rubs his bald head (one for the ladies): 2 O.G. Business Blaze Legends: 2 "The Show Where nobody get what they want": 3 Simon - people don't hate you or how you behave. Yes, you are such an old man sometimes. By the way, the photo of the metal detector slippers had butt plugs in it. And for today's admission that Simon knows squat about pop culture, he's never seen Star Wars? Now THAT explains a lot. I must give a mention to the concept of Smart Connected Tampons (Peace of mind. Period."..... Good God! Everything else was a one so as I have a Zoom meeting (no, not with Simon, Danny or Sam) in 15 minutes, I'm going to have to stop now. If I can get 10 thumbs up to this comment in two hours, when my epic meeting is over, I'll do a list of all the "1's" as well. Peace my fellow Meme Accountant Counters...

So, on the whole metal detecting thing, my dad has done it since I was a child. He has actually found hundreds of lost rings, silver coins, and other worthwhile sundries. His favorites were class rings he was able to return to their owners or their owners' families as they had passed on. He usually will do this for free(some still give rewards), and has been on many local news channels. I was embarrassed in my older teens until he put my class ring I didn't know they had gotten me in his unclaimed rings display and I found it when he was showing them to our family on Christmas morning. Funny how my perspective changed through this sweet moment! lol. He works with a website that partners metal detectors with local folks needing help finding family heirlooms or wedding rings. He has a pretty high success rate. For the past dozen years he has gotten scuba certified so that he can dive and search underwater in rivers and lakes. He has even returned go pros and water proof cameras as well.

I don't understand tech. Ten years ago I could heavily customize every single aspect of my ipod touch. Twenty years ago I could do even more than that for my computer. Now nothing on the computer is as visually appealing and there's comparatively NO customization available anymore, certainly not that anyone can find without having to become more tech-proficient or spend enough time and effort that it'd just be enraging and problematic (that may just be my luck though. Trying to download maplestory always crashed the computer and twice it happened to HAIL outside during the summer on separate summers when I tried to download the app. CoD zombies never spawns jugg for me even though that is not even how game glitches work and it would require absurd effort from someone given that I play on console. yet here we are and my luck goes that way EVERY day)

Comic Sans was created because the designer wasn't happy with the lack of "fun" typefaces in Windows's library. He wanted something for when kids made pictures in Paint or whatnot. He never wanted it to be used as a "serious" font and he actually was quite perplexed to find some people were using it that way.

I grew up in the 90s and early 00s, we had a fax machine because of agency work (manpower) and timesheets, it made it easier to fill them out at home and send in at the end of the week, which also meant we had the original paperwork if it was ever required for evidence. Makes it harder to burn the paper trail in corruption.

Clippie cost me probably $400, and I have never hated technology more than when he appeared. I was doing medical transcription, paid by the character, and typed over 100 words per minute. Clippie would pop up all the time, and I would lose a few bucks every time. We learned to turn him off, but he would be back. The IT dept would come and inactivate him, but when we started the computer back up or changed programs, looked up a word, etc, there he was. I felt like I was being stalked. One of my coworkers actually attacked her screen in frustration. Luckily, she was tiny and only damaged her fist (losing her typing time). I remember when the juice machine came out and I thought it was a parody of some sort. I was amazed that anyone would even consider using it. I'm old so I have a small glass dish that takes 3 minutes and gets all of the juice out, price 70 cents! (It's called a reamer, but I hesitate to use that term considering today's lexicon. ) Keep up the good work. Histrionics aside, I enjoy the Blaze. If you need advice on ancient tech or boondoggles, let me know. And FYI Mattel is pronounced Muh TELL. I know I'm nitpicking, but it drove me crazy when you mispronounced it. Danny spends hours on these programs, and I know you do too, but maybe a quick Google pronunciation search?

My husband uses the Pavlock and it’s actually quite effective at keeping him from getting too distracted for too long. You basically described how it works effectively - you set it up with your phone and computer and it will zap him if he uses for like more than 5 minutes. Apparently it’s supposed to help you quit smoking by showing you if you begin to lift your hand up to your face, which I think may be more problematic than helpful. You can also set alarms that require you to do specific activities to get the shock to stop. It wakes him up on time (makes him do jumping jacks) and makes sure he leaves the house for work on time (QR code in his car that he has to scan at the time he is supposed to be leaving the house). My husband tried all sorts of alarms but it took actual physical pain to actually be functional lol. It’s helped him keep his job and stay focused and has saved me time and sanity as I was doing the job of being his check on everything beforehand.

Noah Gooder - not diagnosed with ADHD but he’s had a hard time focusing on anything his whole life. He was the one who research and bought the Pavlock because he had some goals and dreams he was sick of not being able to complete and would like to avoid any more medications if possible. It’s not perfect and requires being willing to commit to the consequences of being shocked if you don’t do what you wanted to do but it’s worked pretty well for him overall.

17:20 Faxes: I work in the energy industry, mostly gas; until just last week, National Grid still needed to be sent a fax if you wanted to retrospectively allocate your gas differently (I assume through witchcraft). The energy networks run 24/7, every day of the year, creating serious difficulties in and disincentives to updating processes, with the potential to cause a huge crisis if your new system breaks everything as soon as you install it. It's for the same reason that most US military computers still run on Windows XP, and their nuclear weapons genuinely run off massive floppy disks.

So as someone in a wheelchair I have to point out that when I saw that smart luggage introduced that could follow you around was invented I was actually overjoyed! It meant that I wouldn't necessarily have to have a second person help me when at the airport... (cause I have a cervical injury I usually need someone pushing me, and then a second person aiding me with my suitcase...) and as for "don't pack so many things..." well... I literally have a backpack with me that I can take on the plane but it's filled with medications typically, there's literally no room for clothing. D: So some people have to check luggage. Also I've done laundry when on vacation, it's nbd... but it's still annoying that I have to rely on aid with my luggage... When I took a greyhound across California and someone assured me they'd put my suitcase on it.... and they didn't. I asked them three times. When I got to northern california I found I had no clothes and was missing many meds I needed. I got them about 14 hours later thankfully, didn't have any seizures fortunately. But I was pissed. The greyhound people had the gall to ask me (in a wheelchair) why I didn't put the suitcase on the bus myself.
@deathring1133
@deathring1133 4 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't a suitcase that clips or hooks onto the back of your wheelchair be a nearly equal and cheaper alternative, however? I mean, I don't know if that's something that's been invented, but if it hasn't, it probably should be. The person assisting you could just attach it when you set out, and there's no chance of electronic failure. Also, I can't imagine smart luggage would have fixed the problem with the Greyhound bus, unless they'll allow you to bring it on the bus with you. Maybe they would, I haven't taken one before, but if they don't you'd be in the same position whether you have a regular suitcase or a smart one.
@Memento_Mori_Morals
@Memento_Mori_Morals 4 жыл бұрын
@@deathring1133 1st, lol yes I would have been in the same problem cause I couldn't lift the suitcase... but it also was like 20ft away, if it was beside me, it mighta helped a little so they knew I was on that bus... 2nd I've thought about a suitcase that could clip behind a chair or in front. I need help pushing myself due to my neck being injured, so it cant go behind me personally but maybe for others? After I posted this comment me and a buddy discussed designs lol. I was thinking something that maybe has an extension, almost making it like a push/pullable cart. Even bigger wheels on current push cases would make some push or pull able for wheelchairs. (Kind of like a dolly) It might be easy to simply advocate for slightly larger wheels for handicapped people. Then two metal clips could attach it to the back or it could be pushed.

Wheelchair luggage has been “invented”. There is (or was) a company that makes a nifty set of luggage that can attach to the back of a standard manual chair (I can’t remember if they did a connector for a power chair but that’s something you could easily rig up yourself with ordinary luggage). However, it was extraordinarily expensive. Somewhere in the region of £500+ for the basic set with larger sizes and more configurations available for ££ (probably $700+ to you). I did message the company to point out that the average disabled person, at least in the UK, is on a limited income, and products priced like this make them tauntingly only available to the wealthy disabled. They sent a long winded reply about development costs and that it would be cheaper if more people bought them. Unfortunately, many of these products are priced so that only a tiny minority of disabled people can afford to buy them and thus they inevitably stop becoming available, or they try to fund them by crowdfunding and the initial price means they don’t meet the targets (there was a great wheelchair strap that could clip things onto your lap to carry them, but it was £150/$200 and didn’t meet the target funding, so no one can buy or make it now 🤷🏻‍♀️). Unless they price them realistically or make them to be useful for the ableds as well, all these great solutions are out of reach. I’ve not traveled by coach yet, but it doesn’t surprise me you had problems. If airlines/coaches/trains can get us *and* our chairs & luggage to the other end, it’s usually a bloody miracle! Sorry, minor rant on products for the disabled there 😬. I do get rather tired of the notion that we all have unlimited funds to spend on these magical aids.

One of our "specials" in elementary school was computers and one of the first things we did when we logged in was to change Clippy to one of his other forms. I usually went for the dog or the cat myself, but I think there was also a wizards and a ball, possibly others.

I disagree? I knew how to write a letter and browse the internet well enough by that point, but as a 7 year old, I wasn't able to be rid of him because my reading comprehension wasn't good enough to find the settings, as I recall (browse the internet = look for games and/or use the forced teaching websites like BBC Bitesize, which is quite enough for a seven year old) Also, and I'm not sure how this was happening now, but when I was old enough to understand certain words to actually turn him off in settings... he always returned? Not straight away, but I don't know how. Perhaps through updates to Windows, but they were not as common as they are now. Too much time has passed for me to recall anything that might have been the cause. He was a menace

The Juicero demands for internet access were less about the date checking, and more about anti-piracy. As mentioned sell-by dates are easy to handle. However the packets had a very steep markup and as anticipated many companies would sell their own very cheap juice packets able to work with the Juicero press. So there predictably became a market of Juicero piracy and Juicero jailbreaking. Apparently jailbreaking the machine was pretty easy to do, if my memory serves me correctly. The company just needed an excuse to include that technology, hence the dates.

@@AdZS848 Many older companies still use fax albeit in a limited capacity because there will still be some long standing customer still relying on the older tech or they can also be used for sending sensitive documents to another party without the it reaching hitting the internet. They are also still useful for legal docs where a signature is required. Most office copiers will have a scan & fax function built in and windows has a built in fax program (as stated by Simon) that allows you to open send fax without printing it out.
