"In my time of dying" from the same album is guaranteed to put you in a fuckin straightjacket .. Love your reactions bro ..Led Zeppy forever
@joescott8877 Жыл бұрын
Dude, after each Led Zeppy reaction by this fine brother here, I've been requesting almost nothing BUT IMTOD for the past few months, lol! I didn't say "straightjacket," but I SHOULD'VE! He wants Riffs-n-Drums? By Zeppelin? Tailor made, man. Plus I think he'll freak with joy over the slow, molten bloozy first past! Process of elimination says he's GOT to hear it sometime, but I want NOW, dammit, lol!

Great Commentary about the drummer and this is why when Bonzo died Led Zeppelin broke up. Who could have taken his place? No one.
@slimhazard Жыл бұрын
Very true, no one could take his place back then. But to my amazement, many years later they found a way - Jason Bonham was the one person who could legitimately sit in that seat.

@brainsqueezereactions the other 3 members have said that Bonzo and his drums were the engine of the band. He never lets up. He always drives. He is the GOAT of rock drummers. His influences growing up were jazz drummers so he has a swing to his drumming that is incredibly special. ❤

I hope you got there in time for the opening act - I put Frampton in the same neighborhood as Page as a guitarist - an all time great. I didn't get to see Zeppelin - but, I did get to see Frampton when he toured with Bowie.

The drums are normally a rhythm instrument and therefore their role is to beat the rhythm. In many Led Zeppelin songs, Bonham can be heard stepping out of his role and partially doubling the guitar part. In the wanton song, he takes dubbing to the extreme by doubling the entire guitar part with his right foot (bass drum). This song proves once again that John Bonham is the greatest rock drummer of all time. For the guitar part, Page uses a reverse echo, a technique he invented and used on When the Levee Breaks. For the solo Page used the Leslie effect which is known to be used on church organs.

Bonzo is one of my favorite all-time drummers. And I think what you were describing at least in part in your comments at the end is something that I have worked at for many many years as a musician and in bands, and I call it the manipulation of space. The whole mix can be really dense or really counterpoint jigsaw puzzle with lots of space in it, and within each instrument the same, and Bonzo was definitely a master of that at the drums. Plus I just love how hard he plays, laugh.
@joescott8877 Жыл бұрын
"What in fucking jet engine guitar noise was THAT shit??" may be my favorite reactor quote of the week, lol! Your drum/instrument talk was SO smart, man, no shit, it was REALLY perceptive, especially re John "Bonzo" Bonham, the genius you just heard. Not many reactors catch the coolness of 9:40, either. You deserve a reward! PLEASE make it "In My Time fo Dying"! (Same album as "Wanton") Dude below said it will put you in a "straightjacket," and he's right, ha! Ten+ min. of slo-n-sexy blues, then MONSTER Riffs and Drums!!

And this album has got a bunch of "left over" tracks.... I mean tracks that didn't make the album released at the time... I mean, these are tracks that any other band would have sold their mothers to have created! As a teenager in the 70's I grew up with Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd..... And there was a bunch of other bands who were really good. Unfortunately "really good" is the barrier to greatness. If you are really good, the admiration and success is what stops you becoming a Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin
