Not entirely. A large chunk of it was stolen long before the Civil War, the rest of it (Not counting the brooch, the gold shield, the gold bar and the bracelet she gives you at the end of the mission) was stolen by the young Braithwaite girl that was in love with Beau Gray. She took it with her when she and Beau left for Boston with plans of selling it for money so they could start a new life together up north.

After all this time I never knew about the tree carving. But also as has already been mentioned in the comment section, after Braithwate Manor is burned down and the lock box under the Manor is revealed, I always thought that that solitary gold bar was all that was left from the gold stash.

There's a gold shield you can steal from their manor during the raid, then there's a brooch and a bracelet the young Braithwaite girl gives you after helping her and the young Gray boy escape together. She also hints at having stolen what was left of the Braithwait family treasure and having it on her so that she and the Gray boy can sell it off and state a new life up in Boston.

I knew most of this story, but I never knew about the Graves in Rhodes. It makes this story so much more tragic because Lucille and Douglas likely got caught stealing the gold, and killed as a result. Great video as always!!

The letter encouraging Douglas go steal the gold is dated 1806, and Douglas' grave is dated 1831. Long time, maybe they actually got away with it, for a while at least.

First off, I would like to thank you for exploring this story. Its always fascinated me, and I legit had no idea about the letter and the story of lucille and douglas. I just thought the Braithwaite syory ended once the house burns down and you find the gold bar....boy was I wrong. Thank you. I also just want to say ive been a big fan for years, and i am incredibly impressed and happy with how far youve come. You also havent succomed to relentless click bait or excessive adds and I just really, really appreciate it; especially with how hard you work. Your videos are ALWAYS high quality and entertaining no matter how big or small the mystery. I somehow still learn something new about the games despite the fact ive spent 300+ hours with multiple saves and playthroughs after watching a vid of yours. I found that letter LONG before even realizing that players actually believed the treasure can be found, I even assumed the Gold bar you get from the manor ruins was part of that treasure. What I DIDN'T know until watching this video was the part about the message on the tree and the guy telling the story at his camp. Not surprised since those unique camp encounters are FREAKING impossible to spawn. Only ones I ever got was the creepy perv stalking Mrs Balfour, and a trapper talking about how he's eager to hunt one of the legendary cougars. In the previous game, these unique NPC camp interactions were practically thrown at you, what am I doing wrong here?

I think it's part of the design to keep people roaming and exploring and really encourages curiosity to approach every camper, to get every stone turned and every corner explored.

There is another really cool one I ran into on my playthrough. This really tough Hispanic outdoorsman warns you of the Aberdeen pig farm. He tells you he also cut thru their land and they tried coaxing him inside. But his gut told him to get tf outta there! 💨

i go hunting and fishing a lot, usually something happens while I'm hunting. My advice is to just hunt for pelts for pearson and the trapper. you'll notice a lot of new things and meet new ppl.

Literally 4 years later and this game is still spitting out secrets (pun intended). I could watch these videos for the rest of my life. Played RDR2 for 3 years and beat it so many times I couldn't count. Moved on but still love chewing up these lore vids and the quality brought by this channel. It's truly one of a kind. Hopefully one day we'll get a sequel or hell maybe I'll play a game that gives me an ounce of the joy this one did.
