Brake Booster Swap

Replaced brake booster on my 1994 Toyota 2WD V8 Pickup.

I appreciate the video. I bought a 1990 V6 pickup a couple weeks ago and the brakes got grabby and the pedal really sensitive all of the sudden. The engine also stalls when braking so I am replacing my booster and this is just what I needed to see!

Thanks for this video, very helpful. I have an 2000 Toyota 4Runner. If the check valve doesn't fix mine when it comes in tomorrow, I will replace the brake booster and your video shows me how. My 4Runner's symptoms are the brake pedal is very hard to push, I have no power assistance at all. Brake pads are fine.

Replaced mine with the same generic part a few years ago and had issues with the braking being way too sharp. I even tried adjusting the rod on the booster all the way back but it was still bad. Ended up buying a master cylinder/booster combo from a junk yard so hopefully it's gonna fix the issue this time ($500 later). Thanks for the video!

I had the same issue..my mechanic charged me 20 dollars...it turned out to be a problem with the brake adjustment on the rear tires...rear passenger side....

get a used booster for under$100 exact fit and brake boosters on Toyota's rarely go bad so you should be fine with used one instead of paying $280 for a remanned booster.

I think I have the same problem. Did your pedal sink to the floor with the engine ON but feel firm and did not sink with engine OFF?

I wouldn't bet on it. Seems there were 2 or 3 boosters just for the '94 pickup. The parts store will ask if it's 2 or 4 wheel drive, engine type, etc.

No. I got the rebuilt booster at O'Reilly Auto Parts. I'm sure it was specifically for my '94 pickup.

my problem is that the pedal sinks to the floor sometimes when slowing down, or holding pedal for a bit. was yours a similar problem?

that would be your master cylinder, your secondary piston may not be working so just replace that and you should be good

Next time just remove the master cylinder, bench bleed it, and bleed the brakes. It'll save you time doing it the right way.

Why, he didn’t have to bleed the system. He just took off the intake and saved a lot of work.
