This is a brake caliper piston rewind tool tutorial. This handy tool cost me about 10 dollars and works very well. It only works with certain diameter pistons but, for about 20-25 dollars, you can buy a universal caliper piston wind back kit that fits almost every piston size and type of both push in pistons and screw in pistons. Most of the screw in pistons rotate clockwise but some need to rotate counter clockwise so best to buy a kit that includes both left handed and right handed spindles. Here's a video showing how to compress a rear caliper piston both with, and without special tools: • Rear Brake Caliper Pis...

The tool worked a charm with vw polo mk4. The only issue was that caliper was closed so much I couldn't slide the drive key into position. I grinded away the two prongs from the the side of the drive key I wasn't using and fitted fine after that. Much thanks.

@Jordan Zurbruegg "That type of caliper doesn’t need to be wound back, it can just be pushed straight back." I couldn't work why this one was so easy. Thank you Jordan! Just spent ages trying to wind back a rear brake piston with a tool on a worm (obviously seized due to the design of the pads doing dual duty as a handbrake) for a pad change. I thought that as the last time the pads were changed by a brake workshop, it would mean the piston was freed-up. I was sadly mistaken. Back to the brake workshop.

Yesterday i make a tool to do this job. not exactly as yours, but it will push the piston back which will make the job done 👌. I use an old brake pads, a tread rod and a bolt. Drill hole on pads, I weld the bolt on the pads, tread the rod, put a little handle to turn the rod and its done 👌 with paint on it of course

I have the exact same tool, I'm using this exact same method, I've removed the brake fluid cap but it's not working. When I turn the thread to push the piston in it's not getting any traction against the piston and just spins on its surface. I have tried using either side of the tool but neither works. WTF is wrong.

Thanks. A lot of rear brake caliper pistons have to be rotated as you push them back in. The majority of them rotate clockwise as you push them in but on some cars the caliper has to be rotated counter-clockwise as it's pushed in. If that's the case, you need a left handed threaded tool

I used this tool yesterday for my mk 7 fiesta What I found was the disc on the tool was too small for the piston and went inside it,resulting in not having enough thread to push it further back . My solution was to lay an 18mm spanner flat across the piston, which in turn have the tool something to push on. Could have done with 3 hands setting this method up,but once finger tight, this tool made easy work of the pistons with no chance of damaging the piston edge or seals (which is a risk when you attempt to use a big set of pump pliers.

Used the same took on my audi A4 B7, for some reason we couldnt twist the left rear side piston back (right side went like butter) so we thought it was due to corrosion, we pushed the brakes so we can check for any corrosion on the inner part of the piston, we couldnt find any but we found it we had accidently pushed it back to far therefore there wasnt enough space to use the tool and the black plate to rest on it. Anyone got any idea of how to fix this?
