Such a great video. Easy to understand. Bought a 96 Dakota for cheap and wanted to restore for a puttaround truck. Never have been mechanically inclined. This video helped me do it and now my truck stops! Thanks!

Instaling the antirattle clips are very important...but you didn't.....they help to release the brake pads from the rotor when not applying the brakes and the keep the pads from rattling when driving down the road...also applying a little brake lubercant on the contact areas..but never alow any lubercant getting on the pads itself.....do not baby the pads when breaking in or they can glaze over preventing a sufficent breaking effect...go ahead and apply the brakes normaly but never stomping on the petal during break in perion.......otherwise..very good video..Thanks for sharing..

This exact thing just happened to my 98 Dakota R/T. Brakes were fine until I put new pads and rotor on, then the caliper messed up. About to change both fronts. Good info...

Great clearly understandable well done video. I'm a ditto of you by having to work in the yard & my wife doing exactly what yours did to help. Had a good chuckle or two especially when you said that your wife had to be able to get the lug nuts off herself if she had a flat! Yeah! Right! Gonna use your video to guide me as I replace LH caliber tomorrow on my 1991 Dodge Dakota. Thanks!

Great info & video, my 1999 Dakota has a hot rotor, with new pads. I will swap both calipers. I drive the RT daily for Elder care clean-up and moving furniture or building materials/tools. I threw cold coffee on the driver rotor, instant steam cleaning, only 20 minutes of local driving.

Important note on 99-02 dodge front brakes... the caliper bracket can not be replaced. Check the rails the pad ears slide on. If there are notches worn in them, your brakes will stick with the new pads. You have to file or grind the rails on the bracket smooth when installing new pads if there's notches worn in them from the old pads... otherwise the pads will hang up and brakes will stick. Seen people replace calipers, hoses..everything to fix the sticking brakes on those years of dodge and its often notched/worn uneven rails on the bracket causing brakes to stick, not hose or caliper.

I know this is an older video, but it would have been nice to know what size star bit it takes to remove the bolts. Thanks though.

Jesus christ, $100 for a remanued caliper? I just bought a pair of new front raybestos calipers For like $104 off rockauto. I have a 98 ram 1500 ws, v6 2wd, she’s my baby. I think the blue on your dakota is the same as mine

Great vid, only suggestions would be to never hit a ratchet with your palm, years of doing that really takes its toll on your insides. Other suggestion would be to not push the pads in with greasy fingers :P

Those arent shoes. Shoes are found on drum brakes. On disc brakes they are brake PADS. Otherwise a good video. But you can get those pads off with yoyr fingers if you just do one side at a time.

Linda Lawson - A- you may have air still left in the lines. If not, you likely need to replace the brake master cylinder.
@mikemardis4036 жыл бұрын
B- make sure the speed sensor wasn’t damaged during the brake job.

You have pads on your rotors. Additionally, you should never put anti-seize on your lugs. It’s fine to put anti-seize on you hub face and your rotor face. But, it should be copper based due to the heat. You should also torque your lugs to spec and do so again at 25 miles and then additional 50 miles.

If your worried about losing fluid (don’t know why you would be) you a hose clamp. If you have to change your caliper A- you should do both; B- you should do a brake flush
@mikemardis4036 жыл бұрын
Bro, you don’t have shoes on disc brakes. You have pads

I changed my pads. Then when I stopped and went to go and my brakes were still engaged. Make sure not to not bend brake line to much to caliper to much. The inner wall cracked not allowing the fluid to flow back. I warped my rotor and had to replace and brake line. My rotor was glowing and smoking by the time I got home..

This should have been a 10 minute video, max. Please learn to cut and edit. This should have been an instructional not a vlog.
