I’ve replaced drum and disk breaks dozens of times in my life, yet always like checking out videos before I take on a project. This video was an outstanding demonstration of how braking systems work, and I would recommend it to anyone. One consideration - many modern 4 wheel disc systems have a parking brake that requires a special tool. Be sure to RTFM for your vehicle before taking those on.

JDG, I've been working on cars for over 30 years. This is the best video of simplified explanation on break function and squeaking I've seen. It's a great video for the non-mechanic in helping owners understand the basic function of the the caliper and pads. It's also a great video for the novice mechanic in learning the much needed tips. A VERY well thought our video. I haven't checked your channel yet but if you haven't do one on the Master Brake Cylinder and Lines. Thanks for sharing you knowledge with us. Best Wishes n Blessings. Keith you literally beat me to it word for word, i took my first gearbox out on my own age 16 and now 46, DSG the answer to your question is simple, if i studied every thing to know about all the cars i needed to know about from 1988 and decided i needed no further education on cars i would be in major trouble now, the best way to learn in life is from other people mistakes, people like me and Keith watch things like this for that reason, to your question of would you trust me or Keith to fix your car now ???

I've been watching a lot of KZbin 'How to' videos on car maintenance during shelter-in-place and fixing things myself on my 2003 Toyota Sequoia. This is one of the best, most informative instructional videos I have ever seen. I learned so much that I wish I had known about brakes during the past 38 years of driving. I've had the rotors on my Sequoia replaced twice in 220K miles. After watching this video, i will probably have my mechanic replace the rotors once more with a larger sized upgrade, but i will start replacing brake pads myself now that I understand how to do it right. Before watching this, I simply "didn't know what I didn't know" and because I considered brakes the most critical part of a car, I didn't have any inclination to attempt to work on it myself. This video and my recent experience fixing things myself changed my entire perspective. When I think back, I have overpaid for so many easy maintenance tasks that could have been DIY. I fell a little stupid... Ugh!

Very informative and well made video. So many reasons for brake squeal. I had a constant squeak, only when brakes we're not applied, that drove me nuts. I had replaced my pads and rotors, lubed guide pins and cleaned/lubed the hardware. Turns out it was the pads. I won't mention the auto parts store, but even the best aftermarket pads can have issues. Ended up going to the dealer and paid more for OEM pads, but it did solve the problem. Wanted to comment after I had watched this and did a repeat job to thank you for being so clear and concise. Definite sub from me.

Great video and detail explanation! I think you forgot to mention one more reason why there's noise on your brakes...after-market rotors. I replaced my brake pads/rotors 2 weeks ago. After installation, I got a grinding noise from the driver rear. I have a rear brake shoe/drum/ rotors setup. I must have gotten 3 different after-market rotors trying to figure out why the noise exist..even calling Power Stop to get a replacement rotor. No matter which after-market rotors I installed, there's grinding noise! Finally, I order a factory - Toyota rotor and long and behold...no more noise! Just to see that I wasn't crazy, put the after-market rotor and the noise came back. What I've found was that the after-market rotors bolts hole was slightly larger than the factory oem rotor which cause the brake play. What I can't understand is why did the other 3 wheels had no issue with the after market rotors/pads?
