This is in my opinion, one of the best car maintenance videos on You Tube. Excellent close up camera work, step by step instruction utilizing on screen text, thereby eliminating unnecessary and distracting banter or background music. You also showed the label of each product used as well as torque specs and tools needed. Unlike others, you know how to make a video.

Tip: when it comes to the rubber boot, don’t preinstall on the caliper. Instead, slide it on the pin 1st. Then lubricate the pin and then insert into caliper. Doing so will keep more lube on the pin itself. Installing the rubber boot 1st will cause lube to collect in the boot as u slide the pin into the caliper. U pretty much wipe a portion of the lube off during install.

You did an excellent job of lubricating the slide pins, but the rest of the brakes could sure used some cleaning and refurbishment.

@@screwsnutsandboltsI'm an Auto Tech Instructor, I see You have a good talent for explanation. Tip: Make the the complete brake job video into parts(1,2,3,..etc...), but do it in the correct order. Brake Pins are near the end of the process. Replacing the rotors and cleaning all the hardware comes first. Ofcourse don't forget Brake Fluid exchange at the end! Keep up the good work.

Yes going to all that trouble to sort the brakes out yet the calipers etc were in a filthy state & most certainly could have done with a clean-up pronto!! Even a blast from an air line would have been better than nothing I guess?? This particular scenario is a facet I see happening all the time with a lot of the videos on here!! Even viewed guys placing brand new parts onto vehicles with filthy greasy hands & or gloves yet the surrounding areas of equipment were just screaming out for some simple cleaning attention etc. The last workshop I took my car to looked as though a 16 year old apprentice did the job & consequently where possible I now do as much work as I possibly can myself & although I'm mechanically inclined to a resonable degree but I stay as far away from vehicle repair shops as I possibly can & hence I spend a lot of time watching these types of videos!! Boy am I learning heaps!!

Are worn pins causing the callipers to rattle unless I’m braking?

That could be one possible cause. I'd advise you to have that checked out asap, just to be safe

Been using Mobil 1 synthetic red grease on those pins for 30 fukin years and no problems. These guys are blowing smoke up my ass with this extra special 3,000 deg caliper grease! At 3,000 degrees you wont need to worry about any grease because your fukin car will be on fire!

Hello, I bought the same grease that you use in the video. It is supposed to be used on brake pins, which have gum and rubber. Did you have any problem about it? Did the rubber part swell up, or has it dried out? How long have you been using that product? It scares me a bit because it has solid ceramic particles and I don't know if it could conflict with any component. Cheers!

This grease is supposed to be rubber and plastic friendly. I've only been using it for less than a year but have had no problems so far.

Permatex 80653 is silicon based formula- friendly to rubber , plastic parts and metal to metal applications, Permatex 24165 is ceramic based - should be used in metal to metal applications. Operation temperature range for both is -50f ~ 3000F. Regular silicon based lube temperature range is around -50F ~ 570F such 3M silicon based lube paste can only withstand up to 400F. When brake engaged the temperature can easily go up to 1000F.

@@Tom-gr9ii Is Permatex 80653 could also be used with metal to metal if Permatex 24165 is not available?
