Congratulations. It's so unusual to see the 79 Series with that style of factory tub. 'Coz in Australia, the one officially offered by Toyota is a locally built aluminium tub with drop sides which can be removed (same as the rear) to turn it into a flat tray. This style is preferred by farmers and mining companies here. Besides, outside the farming and mining community, most people who buys the 79 Series don't even opt for a tub, buying them instead w/o one and immediately fitting a canopy setup.

No not aware but i don't believe bearings are .ment to carry loads that way .We have just finished designing and manufacturing a new traler axle. With hydraulic disc brake. When we moved the brake disk from the inside of the hub to the outside we moved the position of the hub to keep it centered on the bearings..

drum brakes….good ole toyota. that being said that LC looks hot!
@schalkcompaan12732 жыл бұрын
Hi Adrian, your comments on the LC brakes , suspension that needs upgrading is true but not unique to the Land Cruisers only. In preparing any vehicle for overlanding, the weight to Centre of Vehicle or weight to height changes dramatically with all the extras and add ons. Irrespective of the brand you support, you will require on all vehicles for the add on weight some form of upgrade to at least the suspension. The aerodynamics will cause drastic vehicle behavior changes on the road if you fit anything above the roofline to your destination and if you travel at 120km/h , if under hard braking from that speed the body roll or displacing of weight from the braking at 60/40 ratio can cause big issues. Remember no vehicle gets built in the factory to fit the application of every single end user hence it needs upgrades and changes from people specializing in certain areas of upgrades and for specific needs . I have done quite a few trips in Land Cruisers and Hilux bakkies in Mozambique and Namibia, Botswana and never had to upgrade the brakes as I absolutely keep to a safe speed even more so when towing my boat or caravan. But in saying that I have upgraded all vehicles suspensions and changed over to extended braided brake hoses. Thank you for the details on the upgrade of the LC79 posted thus far. The brake booster makes total sense and definitely to be considered.
@RoamOverlanding2 жыл бұрын
Absolute Schalk! I have upgraded my brakes and suspension on the Hilux too; it’s necessary on any vehicle that gets taken out of factory spec in my opinion 👌🏻

@@RoamOverlanding OK that will work just be careful by moving the wheel you are no longer carrying the load on the wheel bearing where it. Needs to be .Especially as you intended to load the vehicle. What about an of set rims for rear and Carry a spacer for spair tyres
@veziqiniso44252 жыл бұрын
Are you aware if anyone has assessed the change in forces acting on the wheel bearings and stub axles and axle casing etc by adding spacers and thereby shifting the load further away from the bearings and bringing an element of leverage into play? (I'm making some assumptions here without adequate understanding of the subject.). Obviously practical experience with vehicles having this modification is of value here.

I know a lot of people get that with the brake booster; but I think it’s due to not getting installation 100% there is a lot of measuring and checking to get right so the pedal feel is right 👌🏻

To answer a question not covered replace the rear drums with disc brakes since it is illegal to use spacers in australia as a whole you will need to correct wheel travel off road as the 70's different axle width Lower lief packs mean lesser weight over all terrian tamer know's this you need gvm upgrade not down grade your weight capacity your winch has a max capacity of 5.44 ton if going for a 6 ton pay load the winch rating will have to be double that so something to consider 12-15 ton load rating

Why pay over a million Rand for a vehicle to rebuild most of it. Rather buy one for R200k and rebuild from there. This will never cost even close to R1 million. Then, why buy a Land Cruiser to start with if it needs so much modification.
@RoamOverlanding2 жыл бұрын
It’s not everyone’s cup of tea; but the vehicle we have built is an absolutely beauty. These cruisers are true Kalahari Ferrari’s. Why buy a Ferrari when you can buy a golf gti? It’s about the passion, and the feeling. Somethings just don’t make sense, and that’s also okay.
