The triple locked wank factor, so you get crappy fuel economy from the full time 4wd system instead of having a standard transfer case and free wheeling hubs. Awsome vehicle other than that

Awesome video guys 🇿🇦 I’m very fortunate to also have a 95 JDM spec triple locked VX Limited 1HDT HDJ81v and the new Fortuner. There’s still something special about the 80 compared to the new truck. As well as a sense of immense reliability, even though it’s 30-years old, slow and thirsty
@RoamOverlandingКүн бұрын
A great combo!!!
@MarcHDJ81vКүн бұрын
I also have a loco catch can and it does help with the blow by - on almost 300k kms now. You guys are without a doubt experts but just my two cents, after owning one for 30-years: Pull the plastic plugs from the body frame rails - they like to hold water. I run the older oil types, exactly per the manual. Add an inter-cooler. Add the water separator type fuel filter. I change the coolant every 50k kms but that’s due to age of the vehicle. The handbrake is useless and only for decoration, like most cruisers. The rear tyre carrier loves to rust - I had mine resprayed with marine grade paint. Basically, I seriously over compensate with maintenance but I’m sure you guys will look after your one with lots of love and respect.

Awesome to see another one of these beauties in the wild. I've had my 80 series for 10 years now, affectionately known as Bakkies Botha. Same spec as this one with the exception of an manual box and no AC. Mine is in GS trim aka farm spec. 360 000 km's and running strong. I've recently had the turbo rebuilt and slightly modified for better flow which now compliments the tuned fuel pump, intercooler and 3inch exhaust even better. The old girl has some poke for a big bus! They come grossly de-tuned and under-powered from factory. Congrats on your purchase Roelf. I can never see myself parting with mine.

My uncle had an 80 series and for years I have been telling him to sell the car because I did not think it was that special and powerful. Ironically when my uncle passes away, I inherited the car and guess what I will not give it away. It is a very strong and capable vehicle. Apologies my uncle

Looks like a great example and a rare find. The JDM 80 Series certainly came with many goodies. Though there is one thing that we got as standard in all our 80 Series (also in 100, 200 series) that we got in Australia, and that is the OEM dual fuel tanks. All 80 Series sold here came with 145L fuel capacity from factory. But many are importing JDM 80 1HZ-FEs for sale here.

Why is it that manufacturers can't listen to the public and build cars like this today.
@BubblesTheCat1Күн бұрын
They realised that they made them too good and long-lasting and that people aren't buying enough new ones. So, now they've perfected planned obsolescence. 😠🤷♂️

Sometimes it's the government regulations that prevent them from doing so, but mostly it's us buyers, we demand things that are not necessary

What a great find. Definitely a unicorn. I wish we got the JDM rear tyre carrier as an option here in Australia, as I really like to retain the OEM rear bumper of my 80 but the ability to carry the spare wheel at the rear. I've been looking for one for while now to no avail. A second option is the Kaymar rear tyre carrier. But the JDM just looks so much better IMO.

So awesome to hear! 👌🏻 just go prepared for a potential puncture, something like a puncture repair kit and a good spare can really be a great advantage. Depending on your experience, try and get some practice before you go, so your first time isn’t there in the 40degree heat on the side of the road 😂 👍🏻 otherwise, the people are friendly especially everywhere south of Swakopmund and Windhoek 👌🏻

When our daughter was 3 month old we took her backpacking. Two rucksacks, dipers and a bit of warm clothe. Food from her mothers breasth. Piece of cake. Babyes are tough as a Jimny. They just need love and care. Now she is 25 and travel the same way. Yes you could need more from a Jimny. Get mine brandnew in 1 week. Won’t be perfect as backpacking wit our daughter. But it will be a joy. I know i don’t own the Jimny yet. But i have talked to a lot of people with Jimnys. Just a thought from me watching you video. Love your videos ❤

Did you notice any issues with the car while driving it day to day or have these problems been found through investigation beginning with the injectors.
@RoamOverlandingАй бұрын
the only sign I had that I didnt have good compression was that the vehicle didnt start perfectly every day, it was always a bit lazy on the start up. otherwise I didnt notice much. Even the fuel consumption was pretty good at around 7.5km/l-8km/L on the open road; but around town was quite a bit higher.
@radezlojutro8872Ай бұрын
Thank you for your response always good to know if there’s a sign before any problems, I’ve got a 05 GXL with the 1HDFTE and 04 105 with 1HZ, love them both great cars all the best with your’s 👍 watching from Australia 🇦🇺.
