The costuming in this film is so amazing and over-the-top. Most were designed by Eiko Ishioka, an avante-garde artist and graphic designer doing fashion for the first time (and doing it spectacularly.) Coppola declared from the start that “The costumes will be the set" and she carried that vision out with Dracula's flayed-skin battle armor and his initial appearance in London as a "macaroni" dandy with his green/blue eyeglasses, Renfield's straitjacket that resembles an insect cocoon, Mina's red dress that flows like blood when she finally succumbs to Dracula... she put her stamp on almost every outfit shown in the film. A number of costumes like Lucy's wedding dress/burial gown and Dracula's death robe are almost exact copies of garments from Klimt paintings. In terms of costuming, it was a tour-de-force.

You know what keeps this movie fresh? It's the way it depicts vampires and the supernatural elements that surround them. Dracula takes so many different forms in this movie that you get the impression that vampires are entirely incorporeal and the atmosphere makes them really seem more like revenants. The film also goes a long way to depict surreal scenes like this and the other characters can barely believe what they're seeing. It ends up feeling like a a big feverish nightmare. The set design, costume design all help to make this film a visual feast.

I think the idea is that Dracula can be a wolf or a bat or rats ora man..... Or something in between each of those forms. He jumped off of the ship, the Demeter, in the form of a wolf. You can see the wolf's shadow in the billowing sale as he jumped overboard. Then they show him running around London from his point of view. The camera work is low to the ground as if you were viewing what it would be like to run around on all fours. By the time he gets to Lucy's mansion, he changes again to this werewolf form. Then he puts the moves on to Lucy in the bushes, and quite successfully I might add. 😮

All Dracula movies show the creature erotically biting a woman's neck, but this was the first Dracula movie I had ever seen where the creature seemed to have an actual sex drive.

Dracula is bonkers movie. The acting ranges from classy and for the ages (Oldman, arguably never better) to amateur hour incarnate (Reeves) to hammy (Hopkins in two roles, neither of which he takes seriously). But it is one of the most visually arresting movies ever. Coppola let the cameras loose and built everything to operatic levels. A messy, weird, utterly great film.

Lol, I loved Hopkins in this

Hopkins is hamming it up a bit, but for Van Helsing in this adaptation, it works. Remember, he’s “God’s madman…”

This movie was so great, but I did not want the ending to be like it was.... ah well, I totally enjoyed it. In a way it made the romance so much hotter than it would have been for these women in a normal relationship.... which I found exciting too!

5.1 isn’t supported on KZbin.. which sucks
@4KArchives3 жыл бұрын
I agree. I did a bit of research about this a few weeks ago, and posted this on a discussion on reddit. "KZbin doesn't have a 5 channel carrier for uploaded 5.1 material. It uses a re-rendered version where it differs between clients. So for a computer with high bitrate like fiber-connection it’ll deliver a high bitrate high quality version, and for a mobile and low bandwith it’ll produce a low bitrate much lower quality version. All appropriate to the device you’re looking at It also reprocesses the audio and it reprocesses it down to only two channels down-mixing from 5.1 to a stereo perspective. The center channel is being spread across left and right and the rear channels are then transcoded onto the front, but with a phase difference. So what you get is a Dolby Stereo with front, left and right, and the rears added to it in a phase relationship. So you’re going to get an effect that relates to what was serviced originally. It’s far from perfect, and certainly not digital 5.1, but it’s giving you some of what was there originally. The data is kept though. If you download for example my videos, you will see that the file you have locally on the hard disk still contains the original digital 5.1 audio.
