Such a simple system utilising springs, wafers and rotation. To pick one of these however, is top level. We have a small cupboard lock we use for demonstrations around a third of the size of this. It is difficult to explain the system with something so small. I would love one of these. Well done mate.

These are really very cool locks. This locking system is really impressive considering it has nearly not changed in 240 years.

WOW. Beautiful! The locks are beautiful. The pinning tray is beautiful and the picking and gutting were beautiful. I love seeing Bramah locks and wish every Dollar Store in the USA sold them. Thank you from a new subscriber.

Fantastic job besting that mortise cylinder. Those keys remind me of the Nix Pix locks. I absolutely love making keys for locks that have no hope of having a key again. Thanks for sharing. Cheers 🍻 and Happy Pickin!

With the 7 offset wafersliders, it isn't a fun job. I use specifically made files, an end mill, and lots of patience!

I have made keys using various methods starting with just flat thin warding cut files. Then made some on the mill using tiny end mills. This method is the best so far except end mill breakage is a problem, at least for me. Then more recently used a slitting saw on the mill to make as much of the cut as possible finishing the cuts with the file. Now I am attempting to use a shaper with a rotary table setup. This is showing promise however is a bit tricky as the forward stroke has to stop immediately after cutting through the sidewall and before hitting the opposite sidewall. Yes making these keys is a pain.

Another fascinating lock you have picked. So clever being able to work out how to pick these alien tech and making the tools to be able to get the open. Thanks for sharing, cheers

I have a 1790'S Davenport desk by T Wilson of 68 Great Queens St London with 5 original Bramah locks (marked J Bramah Patent) 4 draw locks and 1 slope lock all operated by one key. In your video you say they are expensive but mine still all work after 220 years, they are marked with a crest above the stamp, a very rare thing indeed as this personalization would have been done by Bramah as the cabinet maker made the desk for the future owner. I have photos if your interested in old locks.

That sounds like a lovely piece and may be worth more than you think. You can still buy Bramah locks new. That padlock costs well over au$200. A door cylinder is about the same money. There isn’t much that can wrong with them so I expect yours will keep working longer than any of us.

That's an amazing lock, my friend, and well done picking. Didn't know you had a channel. Crazy how a lock designed so long ago is still holding up.

Great job buddy. Those are beautiful locks but damn expensive. You need way more subs, you're an awesome picker and collector. Great to see the gizzards and cool tray too mate.🍺👍😎🇦🇺

Appears they are not made anymore, though they are far superior to most any locks; I assume hard to mass produce, which is too bad. The locks today can be picked by any fool in a few seconds, or at most a minute or two, while these Bramah's would take an expert a long time.

Actually they are still made and sold new. The padlock was a new purchase and you can still buy door formats. The Bramah is the original “unpickable lock”. Check out this video for some cool lock history. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHmwmYOgYsx3ers

I restore antique boxes and Bramahs are by far the best locks but nearly always don`t have the key, I don`t have the know how to make a key but to get around it I take out the plates at the back. Not an ideal fix, more of a cheat, as the barrel can then still move on its own but they are collectors items and I always warn buyers to leave the key in the lock on a quarter turn. They were basically locked to keep mainly servants and maids out in middle and upper class house holds but I don`t think we really have those type of problems now. I have my eye on a military box in auction but its locked. Now I`ve seen your video I might give it a punt and have a go at picking it myself. Who knows what I might find inside.

You need a friend who can make you keys. A locksmith who specialises in antique locks. If you're in Aus reach out. It is a shame to think of Brahma locks being disassembled/disabled in this way. If you tell some people this, they will probably make one for free so the locks doesn't get lost forever. Best of luck with the picking.

@@thefridge71 Yeh, I `ll try and get a friend who can pick the right lottery numbers as well while I`m at it 😁 . You do know it costs £100+ to get a key done. And why is it a shame to alter the lock....as long as it works who cares....apart from you obviously. I`d rather have a lock slightly altered that works than one that does not. You sound like a bit of a purist where Antiques should not be touched. I have to be practical and sell them so try to make them look as good as possible while adding a few more years to them. Having said that I don`t like them looking like they were made last week. You have to strike a happy medium.
