Its looks are "of its time" the reason Suzuki styled them like this, was because the 1983 GS1000R/ XR41 factory race bike ( especially the later alloy framed model) that Suzuki had used to win the World Endurance Championship was styled very similar. The 85 GSX-R 750 and its big brother the 86 1100, were very faithfully to the styling of the racebike. Heres the factory race bike, you can see the similarity to the road bikes. www.motorcyclistonline.com/25-years-gsx-rs-race-bred/

seriously. that is a bike to be well proud of. i have a 1100 wv and your bike outshines it in almost every department. what went wrong i ask myself, perhaps it was the transition to watercooled engines. but at least suzuki got back on track with the gsxr 1000.
@fidelcatsro69486 жыл бұрын
they had no choice but to go water cooling... it was impossible to get beyond 100hp reliably with air oil cooling methods!! I ride the Bandit air oil cooled engine and i know what its like to be underpowered!

The first time riding a GSX-R, I pulled into a parking lot at the same time a guy that just bought the bike with 40 miles on it. I had my little brother with me driving my car at 15 without a license. I didn't ask but I was drooling and he said: " go ahead, not like your going leave your car and brother". long story short, I bet he never did that again.

A stock air box, have not seen one of those since 1986. This is truly a stock original survivor. The stock exhaust weighed a ton, almost 30 pounds on these, but made them so quiet you could do 140 mph and no one could hear you ripping down the road. All you could hear of them was the wind ripping across the fairings as they went by. I bet it's still got that sweet smell of break in oil lube from the factory, when you warm up the engine ?

I have an identical model and have a dilemma which you could help me with. I purchased the bike from Switzerland which had strict emission laws back in the 80ls. So much so that they reduced the power on the 1100. I am working on recovering the full power of my bike and would ask if you can do me a favour. On your bike can you look down inside the end of the exhaust and tell me if you can see a restrictors plate as in the picture I have provided. My bike has a plate welded inside from the manufacturer.. I would really appreciate if you can confirm your bike does not have this modification..many thanks for your help..

@@timnz1970 Ahh ok, in the Suzuki parts fiche it shows the the Swiss model having a single rectangle headlight, due to Swiss regulations at the time not allowing duel headlights, Swiss market Honda RC30s have a similar set up. It looks odd to say the least and i bet more than a few Swiss owners bought the correct top fairing with the dual headlights. My own 86 GSX-R1100 is 99% back together after a full strip and refurbish, just trying to find an original exhaust for it, there used to be quite a few in wreakers around NZ 15 years or so back, but the with the wreakers advertising on the internet they all went overseas. Anyway awesome bike. cheers from Taranaki :-))
