Fairey were an incredible company - the Gannet, FD 1 and the FD 2, the Jetdyne, Rotodyne and the Light Weight Helicopter all created over a period of just ten years. . What a shame the RAF and MoS could not see the potntial of the FD 2 as a light weight fighter as Dassault did.

New subscriber , retired and getting back in hobby, I do like 1/72 scale because they are typically affordable and easier to display My only frustration is the cockpit detailing and crew or pilot size and your technique has really helped. The blue finish is very nice on this build. The larger the scale the more detail especially the monster 1/24, they cost a lot and you can build more 1/72 kits and have fun modelling. So thanks for helping me reenter the hobby.

nice black panel liner in those wheel wells and silver gear legs would enhance the detail in my view

You can only have two as only two were made!!. One was converted to the BAC 221 which is still a nice looking aircraft. I am not sure if that was the aircraft used by Peter Twiss for the speed record.

Great build Gary not a jet builder myself but I think you have tempted me to get this kit and it is in 1/72 MY SCALE

I wonder why the Ejector Seat is so complicated? If memory serves me right the Frog kit had a pivot to allow the Cockpit to be moved up and down ?
@paulkerry6667 ай бұрын
Great work Gary. I was slightly surprised that you didn’t use any nose weights as it looked like a possible tail sitter?
@garys_stuff7 ай бұрын
I think there is enough plastic weight with the posable nose section that is quite forward with relatively little behind the main wheels.

Very nice! Made a stab at the old FROG/Novo kit of the Fairey Delta but baulked at the amount of filler required, so it went back into the box. I think I'll be investing in this kit! (Though a 1/48 kit would be nicer.)

A nice build gary but whats the point of having the nose in inflight position when the landing gear is down?. Regards 😮
@garys_stuff5 ай бұрын
It's how they were parked, the ones in museums are like it.
@emmabird97457 ай бұрын
Hi Gary, I shall certainly get one. I'm reluctant to comment on your excellent build but in respect of the main landing gear doors, you seemed to be having difficulties working around the outer door. It might be easier to stick the door to the leg before putting the leg in the wing, Or possibly stick the door on the leg before sticking the outer door on the wing. I didn't quite catch the bit about the spar. Are you saying its to long or is it critical to be central?
@garys_stuff7 ай бұрын
Indeed it would I suspect. The spar - I think it's difficult to get dead central so if one wing kind of pushes it through a little then you'll need to very slightly trim the other end. It's quite a tight fit so maybe even shave the thickness very slightly.

Nice kit of a lovely airplane.

@@garys_stuff Perhaps I'll take a bit off before fitting it, say a couple of mil'. I'll probably try an inflight display. Thanks.

A scabby brush,!!!! not in my collection. 😂. But seriously a beautiful model, well done. Would sit well next to a TSR2 at the same scale.

Hi Gary.. a random thought for dry brushing. An old electric toothbrush head; a round head, stiff bristles, and they are all the same length so minimal chance of them going in gaps.
@garys_stuff7 ай бұрын
Not sure if the bristles might be too big?

Well on in my construction. That seat is far too small for any average sized pilot but will barely be seen, so in it went. Cockpit canopy time the seat appears to be too tall to accept the canopy so I had to trim it a bit. And now I’m having a fairly horrible time fitting the canopy. Tried screen first then canopy. Then canopy first and then screen. Gathering my strength for a third try. Other than this it’s been a breeze
@garys_stuff6 ай бұрын
The seat has to go into a very tiny cockpit with massively over-scale wall thickness! Honestly, standing next to the one at Cosford I was thinking - "so, where does the pilot go then?" I'm guessing Peter Twiss, like fellow heroic FAA pilot Winkle Brown, didn't run to a great physical height!
@ianallan80056 ай бұрын
@@garys_stuff I have a feeling (suspicion) that Dora might be the plastic development of Olimp Pro Resin. They did a series of prototypes and one offs a lot of years ago, lovely kits, but the drivers seats were only half the size they should have been
@martindewsnap6 ай бұрын
Does anyone else have mis-shaped nose wheels on their example or is it my imagination? minor matter, just wondered!
@ianallan80057 ай бұрын
Enjoyed your build. You’re a bit ahead of me. I really disliked the pilots seat, it’s a bit wee and far to complicated as moulded, but, once it’s in place will never be seen again. Multiple builds? Yeah I could easily justify three…
