Great review. Thanks for honest opinons. I've just got mine & can confirm the soft rear springs. I feel they had changed the ESC to run slower/smoother for better crawling. But one problem I have had is it cuts out under load. I tried charging the battery again, but it cannot take any load. Not sure if I have a duff ESC or it's a safety cut-out. It's fine on the flat trails. How does your get on?

I've not had it cut out as such but it seems to stall out if you come across an obstacle that's to much for it. Its normally a power thing. I wondered if the lights where causing it because there is also a definite drop when the steering is applied. My biggest issue is since starting to use the two speed everything else in these little trucks seems a bit lacking. You can get portal axles for them now with a 2:1 gear reduction. You lose top speed but gain torque at the wheels.

All the mn99s bog out easy. That short 260 motor is just too light. I slod mine out of the gear box and put a longer motor i i took out of a bezgar rc that was garbage. Works much better now.

Hey there my KZbin friend, I think this mn98 model is a pretty good if you ask me buddy. 👍 👌 👍 Nice and bright too, with the light bar and also faster. I'm with you mate, I'd prefer to have the lights on, instead of having them come on when you accelerate.

Thanks for this update and faire review. This yellow is not Camel yellow unfortunately. It looks good for the price but really requires some mods. I recently made a full dual motors + 3D prints upgrade of a MN99 on a recent video if curious. Thanks again!

I'm with you; the multiple light functions are a "great" idea but poorly executed. It needs at the minimum, headlights, roof lights and taillights that are lighted with the ON switch and brighter brake lights that come on at stop or sitting still. The turn signals can be eliminated--who uses those on the trail? If I understand correctly, this model of Defender commonly has only one {larger size} clear reverse light {located under the license plate} and the other larger light on the opposite side is a red rear fog light. That's Euro and UK spec though but it would be neat to make all the lights work correctly....

Like I say in the video I've yet to meet anyone who likes the throttle controlled head and roof lights. The side lights are actually brighter than the head lights too. Which is a little odd. 10/10 for effort but like you say poorly executed. Battery lasted a while even with the extra lights!! 👍👍

@@TheNathan643 i don't think its any better. It just looks cool because of the light bar and paint job. That would be the only reason i would buy one over the D99S. Its got the new frame on it though which (hopefully) would make fitting the two speed easier?

That 3 pin battery is no good. I snipped it and put a wpl connector on it. Amazon 1500mah batteries fit under the hood

@@theminiatureconstructionco4556 yeah the newer models use the three pin with 7.4. The older ones used the same as wpl, but were 6. I think. Weaker. Those carbon fiber wrap 7.4x1000 mah ones just dont hold the output like the blue 1500s from amazon. Even the 7.4x500mah the wplc24-1 comes with is better then the mn99 new stock battery
