Agreed; it is a neat a classy look to the one and only unit that ever wore those colors. Thanks for watching!

Much more fun to be on the Builder than watching it but one can’t have everything. Great video as always.

Do Amtrak use three or four P42DC's now so they have a fair chance of reaching their destination if one breaks down? 🤔
@SD4575002 жыл бұрын
I believe that is the case; they are getting older and more likely to fail. So the additional units certainly is a failsafe. Thanks for the comment, and watching!

I believe in the winter BNSF requires three locomotives.
@TakingTransit2 жыл бұрын
The Empire Builder gets split for part of the route, so each part gets 1-2 locomotives for the western portion of the route to Seattle and Portland

Love 160 and 301! My local route is the downeaster which requires a special form of PTC, so the only special Amtrak units I can see are 100 and 108. Plus we're probably last to get the chargers haha

Nice footage. I am always surprised at how slow passenger trains in America seem to go, it is probably quicker to drive somewhere than catch the train!

Both 301 and 302 had issues on their maiden voyage. 301 lost it's PTC system but was fixed in Spokane. 301 went to Portland and 302 to Seattle. 301 then came up on the Coast Starlight to Seattle to rejoin 302 in Seattle. Upon leaving Seattle 301 again lost PTC, backed back to King Street. Swapped for 302. Then 115 mins into it's return 302 hits a boat that was stuck on the tracks outside of Gold Bar Washington. It was able to continue on but outside of Libby, Mt 302 PTC went out so it was swapped for another Unit and both 301/2 arrived back in Chicago behind an older unit, both with issues. Sadly we hear that will be split up and run other long distance routes so it's doubtful we will see the pair again on the same train on the Empire Builder.

You got a few things wrong, first 301 came up on the Cascades, Not the Starlight, second 302 despite some issues led all the way back to Chicago with no old units leading

@@IronHorsefan1869 at least the collision was minor vs Cascades Charger hitting the freeway. Always enjoy seeing them head north and excited to see north service resume next month. Been over 2 years since I've been stopped for a cascades unit.

I have a cousin who lives in Minneapolis, I would tell him to catch the ALC-42s and 160 for me, but unfortunately he’s not a railfan.
