played this dude at YCS vancouver I think like round 10. Very nice and cool dude. Very good at the game. Probably shouldve won our match, but I was a bit luckier than him.

I don't get what makes the Lab matchup easy for this deck, especially pre-side. Ok, you can banish the 2nd furniture (not clock since no monster) since it's the only deck with darks for your bystials but DDG and Shifter (side option later) hit this deck really hard, Dweller can be nasty, Black Goat will deny you Mirrorjade and Terrors of the Afterroot can really mess up your Fusions. Finally Daruma hits the synchro/link plays WAY harder since they can't use the materials and D-Barrier is also good (will neutralize either mechanic depending on the rest of the cards) I was playing Lab but I'm finally building Branded (just happened to open a lot of the cards it needs + LOOOOOREEEEEE) so i'm interested in those specifics + the Pure Fusion VS Synchro debate (imo this isn't synchro, it's Rokketless D-Link with Albaz tuners instead).

If they banish either of your one off lovely or lady in gy by crashing in battle or popping, you've basically lost the game on the spot

@@darethepolarbear5647 who told you that, bad Lab players? Just because Lovely wins simplified game states on her own doesn't mean the deck stops functioning if banished, unlike a D-Barrier on Branded or a Black Goat on Albion when they have no discard. Banishing both Lovely and Lady means you placed them both on the field (or the rare CBTG on Lovely in GY draw and discard) and since this deck lacks SP plays focusing solely on MJ (most don't run the trap super poly) you would be in a winning position for that to happen or in an incredibly unlucky position where you have no traps to deal with MJ Quem loop + nothing to summon so you get Ty-phon out. With Unchained and generic extra deck plays you can win that way, unless you play the stun/Dogmatika punishment builds where you deserve to auto lose by not utilizing your extra deck. Lab has incredibly underutilized extra deck, you can Dweller Bagooska them or go full Fire Princess Zealantis OTK and only small Welcome and Muck lock you into fiends. The only reason Branded seems as an unfavorable matchup is due to typically running 2 Bystials during game 1. It's not like Unchained or FK that play well into Lab's typical game 1 disruptions and require specific counters from the side.

@@babrad Alright so I admit im not that well-versed in Lab, but what I can tell you is that I am a top 1000 global and top 100 player in Germany and well-versed in Branded with over 400 hoursish. The lab matchup is defined by tempo and grindgame contrary to what you think neither D-barrier nor Black goat solos Branded unless in the very rare circumstances where they have no cards. Dbarrier can be outplayed by cartesia, rindbrum in gy, sanctifire in dp, branded in red etc etc by playing in your opponent's turn. There is no single chokepoint in modern branded to black goat (contrary to popular belief of aluber or brafu, you can cart or quem alone on both of those). If you can win in grindgame as a Lab player against branded with bounces and pops, then you win, but no single card solos other than maybe EEV on a very spell heavy hand. And so banishing lady or lovely cuts off most of that essential grindgame. I give you all this perspective after playing against Julius Schwarzkopf, YCS Dortmind champion who was playing Lab against me in my last regional.

@@darethepolarbear5647 And did that person say this matchup was unwinnable or so unfavorably stacked against them they would prefer to play against something else? I haven't played since the end of AgOv format due to work IRL, but I was top 100 in DC for what it's worth. Since the original comment was made I have played Branded extensively to know them almost as good as Lab. The Branded Lab matchup is indeed defined by tempo and grindgame. I had 2-3 matches of over 90 minutes where I eventually outgrinded Branded while I was 27th (due to burnout I dropped during the last hours) while I had removed D-Barrier from the deck because of the overwhelming number of SHS and Black Goat isn't yet in MD. What I meant about both cards is that both prevent the summon of Mirrorjade making "banish Lovely and Lady" way harder to accomplish. All those ounter plays you mentioned require you to play against D-Barrier exclusively and nothing else from the Lab board. First of all with Lovely in play protected from MJ by discarding a Black Goat and calling it would make you unable to respond with all that you mentioned apart from Red. All those plays apart from Red are Phase-dependent (either MP, or Opponent's Turn) while Lab only has that with Arias. Black Goat on Aluber is terrible, but denying the summon of MJ for one turn then turning off its effect the other turn is the greatest impact PHNI had on this matchup. Apart from EEV that can be very situational, Full Force Virus is very hard for the deck and leaves you with only main deck Albion and Bystials in hand. It is a very common card to counter Snakes and their followup as well as improve the Vanquish Soul matchup. TLDR; Banishing either Lovely or Lady while it can hurt, it isn't the end of the world. Banishing both is likely GG, but with how the deck is build you can more consistently snipe them with a Riseheart or banish them in the Mirror with IDP rather than get them both with Mirrorjade since Ty-phon is a card. I hope you get my point.

@@babrad I agree with most of your points yeah. Smth to note tho, this Branded deck profile is a bystial synchro variant so it runs hella bystials on top of MJ that you need to worry about banishing. Other than that I agree with you.
