Kindle Scribe 2 2024: How it Compares as an E Ink Device for Note-Taking & Planning

bro this video convinced me to get a scribe. the ability to take notes in the margins of books I'm reading is CRUCIAL to the reading experience for me. I have ADHD and writing down my thoughts on what I'm reading is a big part of my reading comprehension. Not being able to write directly on to the page is what kept me away from e-readers since I've always marked up my paper books. Very powerful tool on such a slim device. thank you for the excellent tutorial!

Thank you for the planner section, it is exactly why I ordered a Scribe a few days ago (which arrives tomorrow). I wanted to move away from paper notebooks and be able to see at a glance my workday meetings and associated notes. And have more than one notebook for other activities, like chess notes, study plans, etc.

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure any notes you take on the Scribe are accessible through the Kindle app on any other device. Definitely a cool feature. Thanks for the great video. New updates look brilliant

That’s what I believed as well. The file is accessible on the kindle app but not of the annotations you make are. Those are saved directly on the device and only on the device at this time.

@@bodendorfer it would be nice if they would create some sort of cloud service for the Scribe, so the notes could be accessed/saved for later use on other devices

At 13:28 I noticed that after highlighting some text you didn't get the popup menu. How did you disable the popup after highlighting? (I find the popup annoying since I have to touch the page with my finger to dismiss it before I can highlight another portion of text.)

I have the 2022 Scribe. My device got all the software updates. The hardware differences are minimal, so I didn’t see the point in upgrading.

Did you figure out how to disable the popup menu everytime you highlight or underline something? It's quite annoying.

@@shethsa Where are you getting a pop up. the menu only shows up when you top the top inch of the screen. Is it possible you are just touching in that area?

Many of the functions are not available on the 2022 model. This could be a software upgrade, but possible hardware restrait.

The update for the 2022 Scribe was released on 12/4. It does everything the 2024 Scribe can do.

One would naturally think that, however I think just like any e-ink device its more about the pressure you write with.

As a e-reader its fantastic, as a writing device, its below par. No zoom, export gives you 1990s pixelated hand writing annotations. Hardware wise, it’s the same as the previous generation, just slight cosmetic changes.

Agree with all this, yet the silky writing feel and the nice fountain pen feature are almost enough for me; my writing looks amazing on the Scribe! I also purchased a BOOX Note Air 4C thinking it was a no-brainer that I would prefer that one. But I don’t like the writing feel (have several different EMR pens but no joy with any of them), there is no pen that looks good on the page, ghosting is substantially worse even with extensive setting tweaks, and I was surprised to find that it is laggier/less responsive than the Scribe. So I am revising my thinking on what I want from an e-ink tablet - initially I thought I wanted as much performance and versatility as possible (I am a heavy iPad user), but now I find myself just looking forward to using a nice fountain pen with a planner on the Scribe. Very unexpected! Honestly any of my iPads run rings around these e-ink devices and offer better value for the dollar, but what they still do not do is provide a pleasant writing experience, even with paperlike screen protectors.

The Amazon experience is the reason I sold my Kindle Scribe and bought a remarkable 2. I hated being SOLD something every time I opened my device. I also don't completely trust that everything I upload or download has to go through the Amazon file system...what are they skimming from this information.

As you say, sadly, the AI Features (Handwriting improving & Summarization) are not available in Canada, Australia, and the U.K., i.e. outside the U.S.A. Very discouraging and a slap in the face for someone like me who has touted the Kindle Scribe from day one. In my opinion, no one should support this company unless/until this outrageous omission is corrected.
