I concur. I've been having conversations lately with younger generation people about "music today" and there is so much music today that has no originality or real substance. Brandi Carlile is a pleasant exception. I unfortunately missed out on an opportunity to catch one of her three night performance in Oregon this summer. I just hadn't checked her music out yet but now I've been consuming it and am a fan.

Brandi Carlile is becoming one of the great songwriters and performers of her generation. Her new album is a beautiful, tender masterpiece and her singing seems to go from strength to strength. Regarding her breaks... She was asked about that break toward the end of 'The Story' in an interview. She said they listened to it in the control room a few times. Decided 'it was technically flawed, but emotionally perfect.' Back in younger days it was my goal to sing with that intensity. A friend was mildly critical once about that and I told him, 'to some people singing is an exercise, to others it's a passion.' Brandi has that passion. She sings from the bottom of her feet.
