We are trying something new this year with freeze branding. Due to our suppliers not being able to get dry ice, we are going to use liquid nitrogen to brand cattle. We are hesitant because we hadn't perfected our method using dry ice yet, so we really didn't want to have to start the learning process over again using a whole new method... but we decided to give it a try since we need to get this task checked off the to-do list.
In this vlog post, we're going to take you through the process of freeze branding cattle. Freeze branding is a method of permanently marking cattle using a very cold branding iron. This method is considered more humane than hot branding because it doesn't burn the animal's skin.
First, we'll show you how to prepare the branding iron by freezing it to a temperature of minus 320 degrees Fahrenheit. Next, we'll demonstrate how to properly apply the branding iron to the animal's hide, making sure to hold it in place for the appropriate amount of time.
Freeze branding is a useful tool for identifying and tracking individual animals in a herd, and it's a common practice in the cattle industry. It's a method that can be done with minimal stress to the animal, and it provides a permanent and legible identification for the animal.
