I was a young boy in Arizona when I saw this movie. I thought, "I want to do that!" I was lucky and at age 12 (1970) we moved to San Diego! I bought a used 10'2" Con for $10 bucks and surfed every chance I could. From Blacks Beach all the way down to 3M's Ensenada, MX.

Just watched on ESPN classic movie's. What a fun movie... Bruce Brown did a great job recording Mike and Robert's adventures. Hard to believe that this movie was filmed 50 years ago.

The script is one of the things that makes this film and his sense of humour and social awareness was very advanced for its time. I believe everyone jolted up in their chair a little bit when he commented on how sharks and a certain breed of whale in South Africa ‘aren’t integrated’ yet

Man, this footage is really THE core essence of this entire famous surf flick from 1964. Bruce Brown's voice-over narration is another thing that REALLY makes this surf movie the no-beat all-time CLASSIC. We'll never get another "Endless Summer" world-beater like this one.

For the people wondering how the waves got messed up. They explain it in 'Endless Summer 2'. Houses were build there and the owners started to complain about sand blowing all over the place. So they planted vegetation in the dunes to keep the sand in place. The sand was the main reason for getting those beautiful barrels. Sand would blow out into the ocean, filling the rocky bottom and making it flat, resulting in the barrels you see in this clip.
@subsamadhi7 жыл бұрын
.....also if you follow the story, the waves weren't actually as good as they describe them in the original endless summer. It really didn't break like this all the time, so its not like it was a flawless wave that happened all the time.
@mikelomez9313 Жыл бұрын
@@subsamadhiTrue but even if they only broke like that some of the time it's still pretty incredible

Sand bars are formed either by ocean movement and/ or offshore wind.What has caused the ruination of this once priceless spot - DAMN DEVELOPERS ! A build up of excavations flowing into the ocean The ocean not knowing what to do with the shit, attempting to distribute said excavations akin to sand, the verdammt excavations clinging to the sea bed creating a false floor......Closeout Bay ! Same damn thing has happened here no thanks to the "boatie" carrot slappers, destroying one of the best (although reasonably "Bronzie" infested ) left handers in mid Northland. Maybe one of the pricks will roll over the stern of a "gin palace" supporting the wife's name...........

@Anthony-hf6bb Жыл бұрын
@@heenalusurf2500 few stories floating around but they all point to local white South African surfers contacting American surfers, telling them about the break. The producers and Bruce were scouting locations for a while before they set off. Fishermen and locals knew about the wave for years before the film. I’m from Australia and I adored the film growing up in the 90’s, also when the sequel was released. I’very been living in Cape Town for a while and couldn’t miss heading over to have a look. Conditions were a bit crap, no one else in the water so I didn’t go in (sharks are common) but you can see the ridiculously good potential. It’s a loooooooong wave. The wind directions off the southern coast of Africa are constant and consistent because of the border of the Atlantic and Indian oceans. The shape of the bay and the direction of the St Francis headland sticking out make for “the perfect wave”
