The Endless Summer 2 ( Widescreen ) "It's a Wonderful Halibut"

An excerpt from the wide screen laser disc of Bruce Brown's "Endless Summer 2".
I copied the laser disc to dvd back in 1999, now to my PC.
Philips CDV400 LD player and a Philips dvd recorder I later tossed in the trash.
The song is "It's a Wonderful Halibut" by the Halibuts.
This is a test to see how this transfer looks.
The movie is on dvd, pan & scan only. No other widescreen version exists other than the laser disc version.

Can you provide a copy of the DVD? I've been wishing this would be put out in widescreen or bluray widescreen for years!

Sorry for the so late reply. Somebody mentioned that the laser disc may not be a true widescreen as I thought. It's possible the manufacturer took the pan & scan & made a widescreen version of it. Comparing this section to the pan & scan on dvd, this may be true.

It doesn't look that good on a decent sized TV, it's a bit fuzzy & blurry.

@@tikibongo99 understandable. B genius about the original was the whole premises and the focus being put on that sport for all the masses to see. However the second movie does have some incredible camera work that the first one just wasn't able to capture National Organization. I do largely agree with you. Any Bruce Brown movie is Grand wonderful. I love On Any Sunday as well. I just wish he had done a follow up Vol 2

@@hotrodswoodshed7405 I have all the Bruce Brown movies on dvd & try to watch them once every summer. I don't surf but the movies are entertaining, especially the cornball humor. Can't understand why ES2 was released in Pan & Scan only, like seriously why ?? I'm thinking it should look better than this video. I might try & transfer it again from laser disc but don't have a way to do it now.

Thanks, back in 1999, I made a dvd by taking the ES2 laser disc, playing the disc & recorded the signal to a Philips dvd recorder. For this video, I pulled the files off the dvd & into my video editor. I'm not satisfied with the quality of this 1999 recording. I want the video quality to be better. I asked Dana Brown on his FB page if ES2 will ever be on wide screen & got no answer. I still have the ES2 laser disc and my laser disc player. I tried to think of how I can record it again straight to a file & get a better recording. Would appreciate it if anyone has any ideas. If I can't find a solution, I might create a file for the entire movie with what I have, same quality as this video.

If you can find a way to convert it to HDMI, you could use a cheap HDMI to USB capture card - your PC will just see the stream as a webcam, and should be easy to record. I'd love to see a good quality widescreen edition.. an all time classic movie, and a big part of my childhood.
