What I see happening is Aiyuk plays his 5th year extension, they will cut Deebo year and then Aiyuk will sign his extension... This coming season Deebo's extension kicks in but next season his contract is no longer guaranteed... So I think in this case that's the plan by the 49ers.

with this logic continuing, no cap on players contract and each contract now HAS to higher than the one before, like JJ or cheetah are waaay better, doesn't mean WR after them has to reset the market. they went from 20mil to 30 mil in a year, contract of QBs are RIDICULOUS high and now the HUGE contract that mahomes got is now like 7th, and no one is even close to his value. it's simply not logical. on this trajectory qbs will be paid 70 mil in 2 years, WR 50 and top rushers and line men who deserve more but will also sign record breaking contract each one after the other. htf does that make sense. how can you keep on raising the salaries with each contract no matter the REAL value of the player ? it's just ridiculous

Just because they tag him doesn't mean he's stuck there. If he doesn't sign the tag, it actually hurts the niners because that money comes off the books regardless! It sits in escrow, but they can't use it to sign or resign anyone. Aiyuk will hurt himself this year if he sits out financially. And if they pick up his 5th year option. But why force a guy to play for you when he doesn't want to?!? That could cause a lot of issues in the locker room! Diggs went for a 2nd rounder, so that's what you'll get for BA. Send him to Vegas! Let him play with his college coach and call it a day!
