Believe it or not, Kim Carnes' version was not the original. It was originally a honky tonk song from the 1970s.
@lavielemond8 ай бұрын
@@SWLinPHX Mon freaking Dieu!! WOW, I had absolutely no idea about this fact, despite how much I've loved Kim Carnes' version - which, until a few minutes ago, I had always assumed was the original version - since I was a little kid, waaaayyyy back when it was in the Australian pop charts & we'd have to get ourselves prepared on a Saturday night, ready & waiting to record our favourite songs with our radio-cassette players during the contemporary Top 40 pop' chart countdown for that week, with one finger ready to hit 'Play' & the other to hit 'Record', so that we could play it almost endlessly thereafter until Xmas, when hopefully we would be able to obtain the latest 'Various Artists' album that may include it, yada yada...!! I was - & still am, in fact - OBSESSED with the synth' melody of this song, despite - or perhaps primarily thanks to - its relative simplicity, it's just beautiful (despite the fact that the first time that I saw a photo of THE Bette Davis, long after having fallen in love with this song, her eyes scared the crap outta me & she was no beauty at all, in my purely subjective opinion!!)...& now I simply MUST listen to the actual original version but I couldn't resist responding to you first, after having just read the Wikipedia article re: the song's actual history... Anyway, please excuse my ridiculously verbose novel of a response that I've just written above & thanks so very much for the very interesting fact re: this true history of this wonderful song, my friend!! Cheers & best wishes from hot & sunny 'Down Under' & take good care out there, wherever you are...Matt.

Lyrics correction: It's "Her hair is HARLOW gold", and "She's got Greta Garbo's stand-off SIGHS". Greta Garbo was one of the old Hollywood starlets who was known for her signature dramatic sighs and stand-off nature, hence the lyrics. In case anyone was wondering ;-)

I mean, live from Abbey Road is usually huge and meant for exposure~! Many of the best versions come from Abbey Road~ Love Brandon Flowers as I was a huge Killers fan. I am also pretty big on anything from Abbey Road and love watching videos from anyone who does music from AR. Thanks for commenting. Promise you that nobody is blaming you personally for the removal of the video. Pretty aware that it goes further than that. Thank you :)

"Her hair is Harlow gold," a reference to Jean Harlow, one of the earliest blonde bombshells in Hollywood. Hence her hair being "gold" because Harlow was blonde.

John Constantine Marinakis Kipps should also say hard to feed with the crumbs she throws you and original lyrics were make a crow blush but that is the thing about covers and interpretations.

Dating myself here, but w/ Kim's 'smokey' voice I think Rod Stewart would have been a great cover artist for this song. This version isn't for me, not knocking it, for many people enjoy it & that's fantastic. Just for me his voice lacks the depth & seductiveness of the original. A very subjective opinion, but it's mine.
