I'm speechless. I think most of us are used to forgiving singers that become the weakest part of a band when you see them live. But this... he could eat up the whole band, the stage and the audience if he wanted to.

This song is about a magic town in Mexico (some of old style towns in Mexico are called pueblos mágicos because they are colonial style). This town is about 1 hour far from the frontier with the US in Arizona. I’m from Sonora. In the downtown of Magdalena de Kino there is a kiosko and there you can see Padre Francisco Kino’s corpse (most bones). Every year on october people do mandas and procesiones from Nogales, Sonora or Santa Ana, Sonora walking to pay favors to San Francisco de Asís, and usually there is music and a big fest around the town. I recomend you percherones de carne asada and gorditas de nata 😊

I recently move 2 hours from Magdalena city, here in Mexico, and yesterday this song went viral, basically nobody here knew about this song and they are very flattered that Brandon wrote this song about his visit to this city and Nogales years ago, what it’s great it’s that I have seen coments from older people who doesn’t even know who is Brandon least the killers, sharing, this video but with subtitles. Love Mexico and happy they found out about this piece of art just like flamingo album. Ps. I’m soon to know Magdalena and Nogales, 🙌🏽

This song is about the town I'm from, I get chills when I listen to this song. He has it all spot on, I have made mandas, and I've walked to San Fransisco's shrine a few times. This song definitely motivates me to finish the walk when I feel like giving up, I get chills from listening to it. :)

One reason I adore Brandon Flowers is because he has this way of writing songs that really capture your interest. With songs like these, you feel the warmth spread through your heart. While I absolutely love the album version, I think this acoustic version adds more emotion. :)

I discovered this song recently, and love this acoustic version too!! When I was a little girl my Mom had a beautiful hand tooled Mexican leather purse... I remember being obsessed with it, tracing the details with my finger for hours... I recently bought my own Mexican leather handbag, with ornate crosses on each side... I call it my Magdalena bag because of this song....

Please don't tell me I can't make it It ain't gonna do me any good And please don't offer me your modern methods I'm fixing to carve this out of wood From Nogales to Magdalena There are 60 miles of sacred road And the promises made to those who venture San Francisco will lift your load In the land of old Sonora A shallow river valley cries The summer left her without forgiveness It's mirrored in her children's eyes Prodigal sons and wayward daughters Carry mandas that they might Be delivered from the depths of darkness And born again by candlelight And born again by candlelight Blisters on my feet, wooden rosary I felt them in my pocket as I ran A bullet in the night A Federales' light San Francisco, do you understand? Tell him that I made the journey And tell him that my heart is true I’d like his blessing of forgiveness before the angels send it through And I will know that I am clean now And I will dance and the band will play In the old out to cantina Cause we’ll runneth over the ancient clay And if I should fall to temptation when I return to evil throes From Nogales to Magdalena As a two time beggar I will go where I know I can be forgiven The broken heart of Mexico The broken heart of Mexico The broken heart of Mexico
