This is one of the purest displays of wing chun/JKD I have ever seen in a movie. I’ve studied wing chun/JKD myself for some years and seen MANY movies, so I know. Brandon has flow. His punches with simultaneous trapping is amazing. His follow ups, block removals, and use of body weight is really something to see. So sad he died. He was at the breakout point in his career where people would have accepted him as a legit “action star”. It’s sad to wonder what movies and roles he would have done. We were robbed.
@darrylm79 Жыл бұрын
I just started taking a JKD class. I noticed he used 2 instances of Pak Sao and 1 Lap Sao, making it look seamless. Basic trapping drills come off as super practical in this fight scene. Loved it!
@Anton13569 Жыл бұрын
Okay I understand it looks good on film. But in reality this fight would end up on the ground and BJJ would dominate. But I respect the visual impressiveness of Wing Chun.
@Apollyon83 Жыл бұрын
@@Anton13569 “……but in reality this fight would end up on the ground and BJJ would dominate.” 😂😂😂 Let me guess…..your a BJJ guy? Let me tell you a secret, if you can walk in off the street, sign up, and take kung fu classes…….then your learning dog shit. Real masters decide who they are going to teach, or not teach and they don’t advertise. Your either family, or recommended. I say this because there’s a lot of technique I’ve learned that I have never found online or on KZbin. There’s a lot of kung fu that is still, luckily, closely guarded. That being said, if the fight goes to the ground, there’s A LOT that can be done about it. Your right, Wing chun wouldn’t work. You’d have to switch it up. I know you probably think I full of shit. But, if you saw some of the nasty shit I’ve seen as it pertains to Tiger and Eagle Claw styles, a BJJ guy would think twice about rolling on the ground with a person who knows that. The BJJ guy would have to switch it up, just like I had to switch it up from wing chun to a different style in going against a BJJ artist. “The Tiger is the strongest of the animals, he fears nothing. But, he is overconfident, and it gets him into situations he should not be in. The Dragon is the wisest of the animals. He will fly about and discover his enemies weaknesses, and then attack with the fury of the Tiger. Together, they are an unbeatable match.” Keep an open mind. One style does not have the answer to everything. Knowledge is power. You must adapt to your opponent.

All in All, you see a lot of his father in the fight and choreography. When you talk about MMA, Jeet Kune Do is that philosophy. Brandon used Muy Thai, Tae Kwon Do, Ving Tsun. And in Showdown in Little Tokyo. There is Escrima Kali used. His uncle Danny Inosanto is responsible for for his tutelage.

@@Sooners0561 spot on agreed! The 90s era was so true to the fight. Nowadays, in film, everything is CGI (computer generated imagery) from the Marvel films, to John Wick franchise, to "Wire-Enhanced Martial Arts Aerials", etc Jason Statham got close, but then he fell into the aforementioned genre. Overseas there are a few martial artists that stay true, but so often the CGI of film takes over.

So many great details in this fight scene. The way the music halted as if Al Leong was a sub-boss before the final baddie. The way Brandon kept deflecting Al's hits while guarding his face before landing a hit of his own. Using Jackie Chan's fence stunt from one of his 80's movies(The Protector, I think). And of course Brandon using his father's Wing Chun quite convincingly. It really hurts to know that his talent never went any further.
@Texy88 Жыл бұрын
That fence stunt was from Jackie's re-edit of _The Protector_ from when he reshot much of the fight between him and Bill Wallace. That was not the only homage to Jackie contained within _Rapid Fire,_ though...

Great scene that Brandon showcased martial arts strategy. At 0:11-0:36 Brandon was on the offensive and couldn’t land a strike on the opponent. So, Brandon adjusted and at 0:37-0:45 then went on the defensive. Utilized his reach by extending his arm and keeping from striking distance and waited to counter on the opponent. Outstanding scene. A good offense is a great defense and vice-versa. Yin and yang.

This is a great scene. Brandon said he liked martial art films but wanted to branch out as an actor that's why he wanted the Eric Draven role so he wouldn't be locked into one type of movie. He didn't want to be another Bruce Lee, he wanted to be an actor. I'm glad he began to move away from just martial art movies. Had he lived, who knows how well he may have done. Look at Keanu Reeves, there isn't a more diverse actor that I know of, it's like what hasn't he done. He's not labeled, he's a working actor. And one of my favorite actors even though he gets slammed a lot. I would have hoped the same for Brandon.

Good ol' Al Leong, or as my friend and I used to refer to him when we couldn't recall his name: "Endo." That being his character in "Lethal Weapon," re: the dude that tortured Riggs with a pair of jumper cables towards the final act. One of the top "Hey! It's...That Guy...From That Movie!!" performers back in the '80s. Had a couple chances to really show his stuff then, like "Lethal Weapon," "Die Hard," "Bill & Ted," "Action Jackson," and certainly "Big Trouble in Little China," which had a whole slew of largely anonymous but thoroughly talented guys, i.e. James Lew, Gerald Okamura, and Jeff Imada. Hard to miss, with that whole "Fu Manchu" thing he had going on. Really stood out. I recall reading an interview he did years ago; I think it was shortly after he did "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure." He developed some sort of brain lesion or tumor or something that started giving him tremors, and he passed out filming a commercial and had to get extensive treatment for it. He pulled through...I dunno how much of a career he had after that, though.

Can't believe his the same Zodiac Sign as Tony ♒ Jaa & DMX♐ is Bruce zodiac sign. from cradle to the grave movie Jet Li ♉ Feng Wei 2003. But Tony Jaa his a Thai 🥊 boxer from Thailand, & Jeeja ♈ Yanin is Aries like Jackie ♈ Chan. & Brandon ♒ Lee 🐲 is the Jeet Kune Do 🐲 legendary like his father 🐉Bruce🐉🐉♐...

This was a great fight. It was a struggle. Not a easy win for the hero but a back and forth struggle. Very much Bruce’s idea-doing what you have to to win. Be it mixing and matching your arsenal or using baser instincts like biting. Whatever gets you the W. Or you know, keeps you breathing.

Back when great fight scenes just had great music scores that complimented the scene perfectly. 90's movies were amazing at doing this. Just pure art and great choreography in motion.

The amazing thing about this fight is not only that technical aspects but the character moments, you can see both combatants struggling, particularly Jake at the beginning when he gets knocked over. Too many fight scenes trying to show invincibility, this scene gives you a masterclass in Martial arts but also makes you feel. Just beautiful.

This type of fight seens can not be duplicated and the use of no special effects is great. Most movies speed up the actors to make them look fast and powerful and use too much cgi. In this one you can see the full body mechanics behind it. Which is what real martial artist want to see in their movies.
