Most loud mouths are not good fighters. They try to intimidate. Most succeed and never have to fight, so their skill set is low. But whenever the one they try to intimidate fights back, the true lack of skill is presented in them. The ones to watch out for is the ones who have had to fight all their lives from being pushed around. Those are the ones who have honed their abilities.

I remember being a kid in the early 70s, and there were a few Chinese kids that were pretty timid and scared to speak up - a couple got bullied. I was friends with them and I remember how proud they became to be Chinese right after Bruce Lee got popular and it was suddenly "cool" to be an Asian, and after that, they got popular at school. I was so happy for them that they finally had a big "star" of their own in Hollywood, and he happened to be the best - ever. We watched Enter the Dragon like 50 times in a row. It was awesome back then...the 70s were the best.

@@Bear78420absolutely. It was a great time for some and bad for others. However, many of those that had to deal with racism were often pretty resilient in finding happiness away from the ignorant. The 70s was an interesting time in pop culture. When we’re living in those kind of times, it’s very interesting and memorable. It can also be life changing for some. Bruce Lee was a big influence in life changing moments for many people of many cultures. That alone speaks to a great period in time. The 70s definitely had many interesting and influential people help change time and pop culture for the better.

What he did in this movie is not a martial art either 😂 It is some comedy style acrobatics in the Jacky Chan's style. Martial arts practitioners are dangerous in their ability to avoid unnecessary energy spending. Just watch some MMA fights and you will learn why they do not jump over an opponent who stupidly lunge at them. One hit on the unprotected temple is enough to knock out a man (and that's why nobody does this stupid lunge in MMA). But this movie is nothing more than a comedy 😉

Things I like about this scene: 1) No music or "soundtrack." Yeah, some sound effects, but nothing over the top. 2) It shows that there's more to martial arts than the "right moves." The mental acuity required is quite substantial. Predicting your enemy's moves through "tells," knowing when to evade and when to strike, using your enemy's moves to your advantage...the clarity of mind is truly a force to be reckoned with. 3) You don't look for the fight....but if the fight finds you, you only fight until the threat is stopped. You don't humiliate or punish.

This event never really happened but it was put in the film to demonstrate the type of racism Bruce faced in the U.S. The idiocy of it was the Bruce WAS a naturalized citizen. He was American because he was born in San Francisco but his parents moved to Hong Kong when he was a baby and that's where he grew up before coming back to the states. Bruce was as American as apple pie but all white people saw was some Chinese guy. One of the reasons that Bruce is so beloved was because he was willing to teach anyone, any race, any color. Seen this movie quite a few times, but I was today years old when I noticed one of the "Gym Jerks" was Michael Culditz, aka 'Bull" Randleman from Band of Brothers.

The guy who threatens Bruce is played by Eric Bruskotter who played the trainee shot by a fellow trainee in Starship Troopers. One of his buddies is played by Michael Cudlitz who played Bull Randleman in Band of Brothers. Watch Cudlitz' interview where he talks about meeting the real Bull Randleman, very interesting stuff!

Fantastic movie. Love how his widow was able to influence the film's tone. Also, epic music at all the right times, stillness to allow focus. As Bruce said, "Be like Water." (referring to the Tao)

Always had an issue with this scene. It has always troubled me that the black guy doesn't seem to have a problem with the racism even though he would have been experiencing the same BS in this timeframe.

It’s quite fascinating that YOU 🫵🏻 didn’t have an issue with the racial slur C****K throughout the movie (don’t know how KZbin community guidelines police) will feel about this word. 🤔 I don’t expect you to respond back, just learn from this interaction. 🤯 🎤 DROP

Fun fact: IP man taught this man. Not only fighting, but learning to be a man and show honor. For example, Bruce took the time to apologize when he didn't need to, but he did so to send condolences.
