Wait a second. So, you can't, at any point have more than 5 fish in the boat? So, if you have a 3 pounder and need a larger to take the lead you have to throw that one back and pray you catch a larger fish in the near future? Am I understanding correctly? It sounds so exceedingly dumb and absurd I'm questioning my comprehension.
@jeffree69967 жыл бұрын
AZ0960440 correct. You're only allowed the limit in your livewell at any given time. You can't just ride around all day with 6 fish and toss the smallest one back at the end. You put a float on your smallest fish, when you catch one bigger you toss in your smallest fish, replace it with the new one. And keep marking your lightest fish so when you catch one even an ounce bigger, you know which one to replace immediately
@markleclair41826 жыл бұрын
Jeff Ree no he is saying in MN waters you can't even have 6 fish in the boat at once, even if you are just landing a fish and switching it out. MN doesn't allow that apparently.
@NoGlockTrucker5 жыл бұрын
AZ0960440 I realize this is an old post but I thought I would reply anyways. This cut and pasted straight from MN DNR site Once you reach your daily or possession limit of fish, you can't release fish already caught and kept and replace them with other fish. While fishing on Mille Lacs Lake or Wisconsin, South Dakota or North Dakota border waters, you may not release fish already caught and kept and replace them with other fish even before you reach your daily or possession limit. You can continue to fish after reaching your daily you just can’t replace any fish you’ve already kept with any new catches

William H upgrading fish basically. you already have your limit of 5 bass and then you catch a bigger fish than one of your 5 and you replace the smaller fish with the newer bigger fish.
@blakemooty60078 жыл бұрын
You keep your biggest 5 fish in a tournament to weigh in. After you catch your 5 say you catch one bigger than a fish you already have in your live well. You would simply release the smaller fish back into the water and out the bigger one in the live well. You still have 5 fish (the legal limit) but your total weight increases when you "cull" the smaller fish out
@wesjanz8 жыл бұрын
Hoghs how? You don't ever keep more than 5. You just release your smallest fish from the livewell and replace it with a bigger fish
@davidslater40927 жыл бұрын
Hoghs how in the fuck would that be a good rule? That is the point of fishing a tournament is to catch the biggest fish. Why should I be stuck with a 3 pounder when I'm holding an 8 pounder? @thebroadwyz4 жыл бұрын
John Caputo it does make sense - however there are many fisheries across the country with no such law that host as many, if not more, tournaments and they do just fine. I get that rules are rules...and by rule he deserved the DQ...I’m just not a big technicalities kind of guy. If it were football, for example, you wouldn’t play with two different sets of rules on each half of the field, right? But hosting these tournaments across state lines seems like they are doing just that. Not trying to argue with you, I respect your opinion and you’re 100% correct. I just hate it for the guy...
@JohnVC4 жыл бұрын
@@thebroadwyz Oh yeah I totally agree. In baseball there are basic rules for the sport but then each ballpark can have their own set of ground rules. I think with that much money at stake it'll be silly for the guy in second not to have reported him though. Imagine losing to the guy that's breaking the rules.
@thebroadwyz4 жыл бұрын
John Caputo I totally agree, it just seems like it defeats the purpose of competition if culling isn’t allowed - even on just part of a body of water. Kind of leaving even more to chance and luck than there already is. Also, it seems like if they were serious about taking care of the fish...it would be a law applying to the entire body of water. The fish don’t know where the state line is, so if culling is allowed on one part of the lake it’s going to hurt the whole thing regardless. But obviously since it’s 2 different states, that results in two different lines of thinking - hence different laws.
