I think it pretty much is impossible to beat a scene where a dude is riding a dirt bike with a chick on the back while swinging a samurai sword the whole time hacking up demons to a thumping soundtrack. That's just 100% pure badass '80s goodness.

The dramatic close up of the cake as the pregnant woman was tasting it made me think it was important to the plot somehow, as if something was going to happen as a result, but it didn't. I can honestly say that this is the first time I've ever been faked out by a cake. A "cake out" if you will.

Sort of. In the original script, Hannah was supposed to give birth to a demon baby that would kill her, but right before they shot that scene Bava and Argento changed their mind and decided they wanted to give the film a more upbeat ending, so they changed that ending and then used the demon baby prop earlier in the movie, but they still left in a bunch of foreshadowing for that original ending.

That scene in the parking garage actually freaked me out when I first watched it. Seeing those people fight so hard to live and all die, that little girl surrounded by monsters while crying for her father, etc... it was so visceral and heartbreaking. Was also a very terrifying situation, the demons are frightening to me. They didn't get a ton of screen time but I was rooting for those people. So that one scene pretty much made the "happy" ending pointless to me, two people surviving out of dozens isn't a happy ending...

@@JayCord00 Someone’s just pointing something out that was quite popular for yes, especially black actors around this time frame that a lot of times got thrown to the side character wise, when in these kind of lower appreciated type of films. Even Brandon has brought it up in a past review.. Don’t be the bullying silencer to someone’s thoughts on something just because you feel you don’t even want to think about their comment, which IS relevant here.
@wiseguy01
@wiseguy01 3 жыл бұрын
@@JayCord00 so you just going to ignore all of the "ooga booga" natives, butlers, house slaves, black side kicks and racial stereotypes that were rampant during this time? You can name some successful actors, most of them you mentioned didn't gain true notoriety until the 90s when things were improving but that does not erase literally decades and decades of horrible representation. Checking off the top 1% exceptions to the rule doesn't change the overall situation for the 99%. You can find exceptions during the Jim Crow era, too. Doesn't change anything. Racism in the film industry is a well documented fact, especially back then. Talking about it is what fixed most of those issues, asshole. People like you are more offended by us talking about racism than by actual racism which says a lot about you.

Why is it that in every 80's movie, whenever there's a scene where characters are at a party, the place is just filled up with people dancing like it's a slightly debauched version of "American Bandstand"? I went to several parties in the 80's and not a single one of them had a single person breaking out in dance. It's like the people who wrote all the movies in the 80's, that required a party scene in them, had never experienced a party in their lives and just kind of... imagined that a house full of dancers was what the kids' parties were like, because kids were into MTV, maybe?

If I had to take a wild guess. Back in the 80s you couldn’t film while a TV set was active cuz the camera would get those bar lines so it was either superimposed or projected. In this case I think they used the Freddy Krueger through the wall trick (push the actors face into a thin sheet) & combined the projector trick.

In Search of Darkness has mastered marketing. I can't wait for the second film, but I refuse to watch any of their hundreds of ads on my favorite channels. That said- seeing all the notifications has def raised awareness.

Here's a bit of coincidence. I just watched your review of Demons for the first time. I go on KZbin just now and the first thing I see is your review for Demons 2. You're either psychic or amazing at your job. I'mma go with the latter

It's produced by the director of Suspiria. Of course it's going to look great. You're right, though, that it's basically just ripping off David Cronenberg's "Shivers" by transferring the setting to an apartment building, not to mention stealing the stretching TV screen from "Videodrome."

I love these 2 Demons movies by Bava. They both have killer soundtracks. Fun, pulpy and gory cinema. I was late on Demons 2...was a fan of the first one for years, and only saw Demons 2 recently..damn I wish I saw it earlier!

The awesomeness of hearing Brandon mention my favourite band, The Cult, by name, almost makes up for the disappointment of Tony shaving his bad ass, Olympic quality sideburns from the first film.

The second I saw her I thought, "OMG that looks like Sean ....", but before I could complete that thought YOU had to jump in and state the obvious. They say that great minds think alike..... now I have to wonder.... Brandon thinks like me? That's gonna keep me awake at night.

Brandon! I can't believe you didn't mention the part where Bobby chews out the muscle head when he brings over the fire extinguisher and asks how to use it. Other than that, great review! Demons 2 just isn't up to par with the first. But it's definitely not bad, either. With repeat viewings, it's actually pretty entertaining!

There are many things one could say about this review but... DARIO ARGENTO PRESENTA? As a native Italian speaker I can say: damn nice pronunciation!!! I can tell someone has been watching more than enough Italian and especially Italian exploitation movies LOL... jokes apart, keep up the good work!!!

Demons 1 & 2 are a handful of movies where the first and sequel are queasy great. I can’t choose one from the other. The music in both are PERFECT. The gore, the storylines, the production, the directing, the acting, the camerawork, the cast, EVERYTHING is perfect. The theme song from 2 is better though :)
