hard to believe people thought the first avenger was campy when motorbike helmet captain america existed
@AvengerII8 жыл бұрын
+piplup2009 There's a MUCH worse Captain America series than those two films Reb Brown starred in...! The Captain America serial from the 1940s was arguably one of the worst superhero adaptations of its time. Only the Batman serials are as bad! Cap was reduced to being a wingless, shieldless district attorney who carried a gun and had a nice right hook (punch). It was seriously low-budget and had next-to-nothing in common with the comic book! Reb Brown's movies, the 1990 Cap Movie, and Chris Evans are infinitely closer to the comics than that 1940s crap was! It was really sad because usually Hollywood waits until a property is decades-old before they start changing everything! The 1940s Captain America is so bad that Marvel/Disney haven't bothered to maintain the copyright on it and it's bootlegged like hell all over the place. Very, very easy to find on KZbin and it's been available on VHS and DVD from various companies. That speaks to its quality! It's ironic that Sony still has rights to the 1940s Batman serials. (Sony owns Columbia Pictures which produced the 1940s serials for Batman and Superman. WB only bothered to ever buy out the Superman serials. That's how bad the Batman serials were!) The last time I saw the Batman serials in a store was at Wal-Mart where they're available in a 4-disc DVD collection. They are so bad that I never even finished watching the first serial! By comparison, the Superman and Captain Marvel serials are classics and infinitely more watchable. How different things are today!

As a stand alone movie, I agree it is slow to get to some magic stuff. As a pilot for a series, it isn't bad. The Hulk series pilot is also rather slow and we don't get a hulk out until well past mid film, if I remember correctly. But a pilot introduces characters, create the super hero and so on so the 45 minute episodes csn follow the simple formula: present a problem, put the main characters there, then try something and fail, but save the life of the main characters, then try something else and succed in stopping the villain.

Like your channel, but this is actually a pretty good B movie. Haven't subjected myself to the current movie and it's modern Political Correctness, but I liked this old one.

I think it would have worked better if, instead of the Not Nameless One, Morgan worked for Dormammu (with hints of Baron Mordo here and there). 1) Because Dormammu is Clea's uncle and 2) Dormammu is one of the more well known Dr. Strange villains and one of the most powerful Marvel baddies. Or, if not Dormammu, his sister Umar who is Clea's mother. Also, it's weird you didn't mention the changes made to Strange's origin. In the comics, Strange wasn't a psychiatrist, he was a too-proud surgeon who lost control of his hands due to an accident and was taken in by the Ancient One where he, not only gained control of his hands once again, but he earned redemption. I'm also surprised you didn't mention the lack of the Ancient One who is a VERY important character in Doctor Strange lore.

That was the thing that threw me off was how that guy knew doctor strange father. And that this one wasn't a brain surgeon but a shrink. But back to the part where he knew his father because in the comics doctor strange doctor strange becomes a father but doesn't know that he is one and the shocker is that the son name is Steven strange jr 🤔 but wasn't a doctor. But than the part with clea won't make any sense at all. One more thing I forgot to mention that this one looks like the one from the comics.

I remember when this came out; it was disappointing since so many TV shows had already done great work with occult and magic themed episodes and done them better. Not to mention how un-Dr. Strange his costume looked when battling. But even so we thought it was good enough that we assumed a second TV movie would be made or that Strange would show up in Hulk or Spider-Man. What an awesome Halloween episode that would've been. We also were excited that two of the core Defenders now were live-action.
