The Destroyer/Destoroyah thing has a depressingly mundane reason; they couldn't trademark the name "Destroyer" so "Destoroyah", a slightly stylized version of the Japanese name "Desutoroia," was chosen to be TMed instead. The Gheedra/Geederah/Gheedorah difference is more due to different ways of pronouncing the word.

It's a meh for me. I'll explain why, this film dosen't have too great writing, shallow callbacks to the original that could've gone somewhere and lazy cinematography. Things like neon genesis evangelion and the heisei gamera trilogy have much better writing and cinematography and special effects. Godzilla's death is a great moment but i just cannot engage with the characters and destroyah had so much wasted potential, he's just another monster if you take away the origin to the oxygen destroyer which is the only real connection.

These movies are dubbed in Hong Kong where they speak the Queen's English. And in the Queen's English accent, words with an "a" ending are pronounced with an "er" sound. You'll hear this in England all the time as well.

To some extent, I'm willing to give some leeway when someone's accent causes them to mispronounce a word (such as a certain Minnesotan comic book reviewer saying "rum" instead of "room"), but when someone is acting in a professional capacity (well, more professional than Birdemic, at least), I expect them to be able to enunciate clearly, especially when they end up mispronouncing the name of the title character. You ever hear a British person say "Americar"? No, because even they know that's stupid and wrong. And before you say anything, I'm from Texas and have a bit of an accent, so I realize the importance of not slurring my words and putting a random R at the end.

I found Akira Ifukube’s score for this on vinyl at a record store today and I couldn’t be happier with the find. The artwork is great, the vinyl has a nice color to it, the quality of the music is superb and to top it all off, when you open it up, it triggers a speaker that plays Destoroyah’s roar. I nearly jumped ‘cause I wasn’t expecting it.

I'm 49 yrs old, and have been a huge Godzilla fan since I first saw him in the 70's on TV. I personally say "Gidora (GEE-DER-RAH)" which is the Japanese name because its easier to spell and easier to say (because it rolls off the tongue) and it sounds cooler (tbh ghidorah just sounds weird to me).

Fun Fact: The original ending of *"GODZILLA vs* *DESTOROYAH"* had Destoroyah NOT killed the Japanese Self-Defense Force (JSDF), but rather seriously crippled by them. And after he fell, Destoroyah is then confronted by Godzilla at his meltdown point and as Godzilla punch him to a pulp, JSDF then fired their cyrolaser guns at the two monsters; and with the combination of intense heat & cold, Destoroyah dies, followed by Godzilla. However, Toho felt that Godzilla's death should be the main highlight, so Destoroyah gets killed off early before Godzilla went meltdown.
