I once met Angus Scrimm sitting in the lobby of a hotel after the wrap of a Fangoria weekend. I had been disappointed because the actor we went there to see didn't show up. Then there is Angus Scrimm chilling in the hotel lobby across from me. He was so nice and we chatted for a little while. It was absolutely the best experience of the weekend. RIP Angus Scrimm

The Phantasm main theme is so underrated. Right up there with Halloween's for me. Despite the sequels having their enjoyable moments, I really like how this one works as a standalone film due to the double twist at the end. The idea that Mike was just dreaming everything because he was distraught over his brother's death seems to explain the less logical elements of the preceding scenes and eases the audience's tension. Then BAM, that mirror scare! Brilliant.

I have loved Phantasm since I saw it when it opened in 1979. I appreciate it's energy and imagination. I also can identify the relationship between the brothers and Reggie who are really a family when you think about it. Mike's fear that his big brother will leave him behind added an extra element of drama to the film.

So what’s weird about watching this is because Jody played by Bill Thornbury is a family friend of my family, and also my guitar teacher. I never knew this existed till I got more into films and music. So imagine my shock after years of knowing Bill since I was a baby, and seeing him pretty much almost every day of my life, and playing guitar with him, to realize he was apart of this Cult Classic horror movie! Honestly now I look back on when we played together and I imagine he would think back to the jam session in this movie.

I love this movie mostly because, for a horror flick, it's surprisingly raw in its depiction of grieving via. Dreams. *Spoilers * After the end, I went back and saw a surprising amount of hints of the character's death: Mike never leaving him alone, having panic attacks every time he went somewhere, and even Jody's premonition of being pulled into the grave and causally see his name on one before being confronted by the tall man. It was almost like he knew in a vague way that he was dead and wanted to help his brother through his grieving (in his brother's nightmare) by aiding him one last time in confronting his fears of his own mortality. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it...

I saw this film on its first-run at a drive-in. Double feature started with Corvette Summer, starring Mark Hammel, which totally did not prepare me for the main feature phantasm! Phantasm had a scary minor key soundtrack, a great jet black muscle car, and a bizarre science fiction angle which really worked well together. And of course a really creepy/scary protagonist.

0-0 Dear God.....don’t give Brandon any ideas for what the 200th episode should be on. Plus to all the “professional critics” who bashed Godzilla: King of the Monsters(which I freakin love!) I would dare them to watch that movie or even Son of Godzilla and then watch King of the Monsters again and tell me and many other Godzilla fans which one was truly worse. One that has so much love and care for the Godzilla mythos or two of the WORST Godzilla movies ever made

"You play a good game boy!" I am not a fan of horror any longer since the sequels of this era in the eighties or nineties but if I have to pick a favorite horror movie this is probably it. We loved it for the freaky seventies atmosphere and the Hemi Cuda! Try to imagine a whole generation coming of age and going from four channels to having HBO and access to terrific stuff like this for the first time. It was awesome. The only difference between my friend and I and Bevis and Butthead was that we were clever enough to score beer and weed to watch tv with.

I remember watching this on the CBS late night movie on Friday night at 11:30pm. My parents went out every Friday night back then in the 70's and I always had a babysitter that would let me stay up and watch the the horror films CBS would show--UNCUT at that time. This one is my all time favorite. I love the combo horror/sci-fi elements and the weird mystery of it all. (Other great films from the late night were "Frogs" and "Sssss"....which Brandon, should review! "Ssss" had a young Don Johnson as the star)
